I will be real Yama was cooked twice and one time by a stronger and one time by a smarter opponent it really isn't plot tho.
It's just Yhwach and Shinigami Aizen being his match.
Yhwach played with him and wanted to take revenge remember a 1000 years ago when Yhwach lost it was by yama and Chōjirō sneak stab to Yhwach also this was already after Ichebei had already defeated Yhwach and sealed most of his powers people forget that part.

As for Aizen he was the closest to Yama as pure Shinigami and surpassed Yama soon enough after his evolutions Yama is great but it's not plot it's just better opponents.I say this as an his Fan.

What actually was stupid by plot was him not allowing Orihime to heal his arm because of pride that humans who the soul society should protect are helping him.
Also Yama's bankai was stronger now than it was 1000 years ago his stamina was worse but that's it and once again Yhwach was playing with Yama by taunting him because Yhwach is just that type of person talks about something does completely opposite.Yama was softer as a person from 1000 years ago but not weaker Yhwach was just taunting him cuz he is evil lol and wants Yama to feel like he did something wrong while the real reason Yhwach lost a 1000 years ago was most importantly Ichebei sealing most of his power and almighty.

I mean, Aizen didn't dare fight him head on even with the hogyoku, so he had to seal his bankai and everything, making yama fight with only his hands, and yhwach did the same thing. Yama was missing an arm, and he first sent out his clone so yama would use his full bankai on him, and only when he was weakened and tired, did true yhwach appear to fight him cuz he's a little ***** that knew better than to fight my boy yama at his full strength.
In both cases, neither of the two dared to fight him fair and square.
So my boy Yama will always stay the GOAT🙌🙌🔥🔥 (rip yama the legend)

Why would Aizen fight Yama straight on Aizen said it himself more often than not it was likely Yama would win also till his first evolution Aizen wasn't getting any real boost from hogokyu after his first evolution he was above Yama by a lot so was Ichigo by the time he fought Aizen later.
And again I gave all the context Yama sure is a goat but 80 percent Yhwach with his powers still not complete and without all mighty is around Yama level remember bro Yhwach who had already got his almighty and most of strength sealed is what lost 1000 years ago so yeah while Yama without Arm was weaker Yhwach was way way weaker than his true strength and Yhwach didn't need his clone bro if you read or re-watch it was about making Yama feel hopeless Yhwach would win in a fight but nah that wasn't what he wanted he wanted to humiliate Yama and also tell him how his ideology was worse.Yhwach is a petty dude.

Yama can be the goat and we can still have nuance and actually scaling it sucks because Yama should have been allowed to burn of Quincy thugs Yama didn't get to do his ****.
