I feel like you're under a couple misconceptions here? I don't think they get to walk back after becoming a wild god. Not to mention I think Gazzy is a bird not a fish?

Was that ever said anywhere? I only know the lore of 'if you persist on being in your animal form, you'd become Wild Gods at best and can't ascend', nothing says that Wild Gods can't change their mind at a later point and turn to a humanoid form (at the cost of their current cultivation) from what I've seen.

Also, I'm pretty sure Gazhurra is that massive fish that almost swallowed you if you choose to get or upgrade water element after fighting scholar Taio. With getting the Yang Crest as another branch in that choice.

Becoming a Wild God is a Point of No Return.

Beasts have two choices. They can become a Tailed Beast and eventually a Yokai, or they can become a Dragon.

Those are your paths to Cultivation.

If you don't follow either of those paths... And decide to continue on with your Beastly ways... Yeah... You become a Wild God.

Aka a ****ing abomination.

That deserves to be purged from the world.

A walking insult to the heavens, a mockery of intelligence and cultivation.
