I just remembered Golden Rose author? Which the Book 2 is at Chapter 4, with like 200,00/300,00 words, i think? But have no public demo lmaoo, authors are for SURE pretending they didn't see this rule huh?

CC Hill too, mostly content is behind patreon

(i'm also subscribed to a patreon of a author i really like that's doing a rework of her first book but she posted on patreon that she would like to post a public update every 3 months, to make "sure" everything is "well and non-bugged" which is just a excuse for me, how can i tell her about this ChoiceScipt rule without sounding like a dick lol

Lol yeah ditto for The Golden Rose, it's the same with The Fernweh Saga. They're two of my favourite IFs but damn lol. Last time I checked, The Golden Rose Book 2 was on chapter 4 or so? And it has a pretty hefty word count too, atp there's been a patreon access demo for maybe 2 years? And last time I was on The Fernweh Saga patreon (which was about a year ago), I believe Book 2 was on chapter 6 or so? And the patreon demo has been a thing also for maybe like 2 years there too. And the author makes very consistent progress, so I imagine there must have been several chapters added by this point. At this rate she'll finish the whole *** book before ever releasing a public demo lmao.

But yeah idk if those authors have some sort of agreement with COG or what like the Shepherds of Haven author does, it's entirely possible since they're one of the more popular HG authors, ig we'll never know unless either COG or the authors themselves ever confirm it. And tbh on one hand I can't even blame them for not sticking to the rule bc COG themselves are so unpredictable with enforcing it and basically only do it selectively. Wasn't there some mild drama with this very issue a few years ago where the Fallen Hero author got reprimanded for breaking the rule? Idk it's such a mess bc Malin also has one of the most popular HG books and he still got scolded for breaking the rule so basically COG just do whatever they want lmao. Another thing I wanna say is props to Sera (Wayhaven author) for never breaking this rule even though she's literally the most popular HG author. She only releases like 5-6 chapters per book to the public, has early access to the chapters for patrons only for a week or so before releasing to everyone else, and has no patreon demo, she just finishes the books in peace and quiet and then releases them lol. Tbh not having any open beta for feedback at all is another problem entirely but that's a different issue so I'm not gonna get into that lmao.

Shepherds author had a agreement with cog, she paid them to not have to release her game content to the public. Idk if others authors also have this agreement
are you f serious, i didn't even know that this exists, bizzare, but fair i guess? i also didn't read anything about this on cog rules, maybe i have to reread again.
cog should maybe release a list of authors that have this type of agreement, to be completely transparent with people.
also what's the point of the "rule" if you can pass around them with money? lol

This rule of theirs is just to reinforce copyrights. Since authors use their engine for free to make demos of their ifs, they shoudn't be making money with it, but i guess cog also understand that many HG authors needs the patreon to be able to make writing their full time job (like with TWC and The Golden Rose), so they allow it. However, the author can bypass this rule by either buying the license for the software or (this is Lena case) paying a porcentage of what they make in patreon. Maybe other authors have done the same, but only Lena has talked about it publicly.
Now, why they don't care about this enough to reinforce this rule, i have no idea lol.
