It would help if you tell us what other cultivation games you've played. I do always default to recommending "Hero's adventure, road to passion" and "Tale of immortal" though. (I think tale of immortal needs the character dlc to be a complete experience though)A question out of context, I just finished Wandering Sword yesterday and its easily the best cultivation game ive played. I remember long back some of us were talking about good cultivation games. Is there anything similar to Wandering Sword? With a good story, a very good main character and power progression, good gameplay mechanics, good side characters and companions, good quests which branch. Man i've been feeling empty since finishing the game and idk if ill find something like it again. Part of the reason why i didnt even comment on the Q/A cuz i havent read it since i was busy with the last act of the game lol.
Character DLC? Is this any good? I remember not buying it because the reviews were terrible. It would help if you tell us what other cultivation games you've played. Tis the 5 blooms and the other stories. Been long since I played it. Really nice but you can still enjoy the game without themCharacter DLC? Is this any good? I remember not buying it because the reviews were terrible.

Finished Tale of Immortal with the character dlc. Enjoyed it, had iffy translation, average characters even with the dlc. Story was good although a bit complicated at times with the translation and poor story telling. Played Hero's adventure for a short while but cant really enjoy it since the story doesnt take itself seriously. There's wasnt any seriousness to the game, maybe it gets better but i dropped it very shortly. Checked out Ho Tu Lo Shu, its isekai and has ai translation which is ****, translation is a big thing to me since i had some poor time during TOI too. Wandering sword imo has really good english translation. It was clearly done by professionals who actually worked with the native localisation team instead of winging it from their perspective. It would help if you tell us what other cultivation games you've played. Well it's not perfect or anything but I found it quite fun. And the story is just right for those who like power fantasy (Essentially, Present age people can't beat the bad guy permanently, so they essentially go back in time to when you were born yada yada yada)Character DLC? Is this any good? I remember not buying it because the reviews were terrible.
We're polar opposites on this front, since I disliked wandering sword and loved hero's journey. Such a shame since both games are essentially one and the same and we can't enjoy bothFinished Tale of Immortal with the character dlc. Every other Wuxia or Xianxia games i check online are just sandbox games with little effort to the narrative and characters. Btw finished Jade Empire long back as well, very good game. A classic Bioware game which i enjoy just for its writing and roleplayablity. While i do enjoy certain sandbox elements to games, i would lose interest if it overencompasses the narrative. Writing, story, characters and world building which corrosponds to the usual cultivation trope would be my preference. Wandering sword did all this almost perfectly imo.
Also choice and consequence is big in this game. we have sidequests which affect the main story like crazy at times. Your relationships with recruitable characters, outcomes of certain sidequests, whether you've recruited certain characters play a very big role in the main story. We have moments in the game where the side characters shine like crazy and they complement the MC really well. The MC is called Yuwen Yi. He's imo basically Naruto but better lmao. I feel like they did the Naruto characterisation with him way better if you do like a perfect playthough. His power progression is really immersive. Its no power fantasy, we do get narrative L's and gameplay L's if we're ****, but he doesnt just grow stronger in power, he gets more mature, intelligent and cunning. He gets called out early story for not being smart enough or bold enough. But mid to late in the story those same characters then praise him when he is more cunning and bold. I never expected such depth to characters and story in an almost isometric 2d pixelated game lol. The plot twists, world building, lore are really good. And almost everything connects to the main story. Majority of the sidequests clue into the main story and atleast half of that half someimpact on the story.
I am in the same boat as you .Hero's adventure replayability alone is crazy and serious moments are serious things become pretty serious after leaving starter village also some of the comedy is usually reserved with old man sect ,the other three sects have doesn't even have single comical moment.Well it's not perfect or anything but I found it quite fun. And the story is just right for those who like power fantasy (Essentially, Present age people can't beat the bad guy permanently, so they essentially go back in time to when you were born yada yada yada)
From what i remember the game was review bombed for reasons outside its quality. The character dlc adds like 5 romance options whose stories you follow as you progress through the game.
The translation is like a 4/10 tho lol. And scaling gets crazy towards the last 10% of the game. The devs literally give up and have all end game bosses target your health directly while ignoring all defense. This might've been amplified because I played on hard though.
The fact I went through all that bullshit does show I cared about the game enough tho haha.

Anyway, I'm currently playing "Legend of Mortal" and having a good time with it. But it doesn't have an english translation so I must rely on a fan translation that's a bit lacking.
I didn't know you had to craft the story item from the three pieces the game made you collect, so I ended up getting the bad endingAlso being able to become the emperor
I really want to play Hero's adventure and some online say its the closest to wandering sword. But from what i've played it feels more like a parody with the occasional serious moments. Is it like that throughout the game or is it just the case for the prologue?Well it's not perfect or anything but I found it quite fun. And the story is just right for those who like power fantasy (Essentially, Present age people can't beat the bad guy permanently, so they essentially go back in time to when you were born yada yada yada)

Haha well it isn't bad for you lol you are still the strongest lol bad for the nation tho.I didn't know you had to craft the story item from the three pieces the game made you collect, so I ended up getting the bad ending![]()
I mean, its not a vastly branching story. It has minor branching with major differences later in the main story. Consequences are evident late game yes. But i am of the mind that i can look past branching if the writing is good. Besides, i think branching done in the Wandering sword is more than good enough for me.I am in the same boat as you .Hero's adventure replayability alone is crazy and serious moments are serious things become pretty serious after leaving starter village also some of the comedy is usually reserved with old man sect ,the other three sects have doesn't even have single comical moment.
But yeah making op builds in hero's adventure was so fun i unlocked every achievement for it.
Also being able to become the emperor,or the imperial noble, become the general of the han army, become duke by selling out your people and joining the Yan Army, becoming martial alliance leader or conqueror, becoming number 1 in the world, marrying like three princesses.
There is so much to do in this game lol.
Also the evil sect dlc where you can betray then or actually go full evil with that sect.
Hero's adventure issue is a lot of people have a hard time finding these things and drop the game in their first run while hero's adventure first run is basically a tutorial run.
While wandering sword has barely any freedom most of the difference we make is superficial till the later half that said I still enjoyed it but the game has way less freedom. thankfully tho the dlc they added the ashes and dust and the southern dlc made the game way better and added more impact for mc and also companions that was good atleast they get a shine now the original game was middling at best but now it is Good overall so you should re-try it imo while it doesn't have real freedom for a lot of things the plot improvements are substantial from the original game.
It's decent now it is overall a good game before ashes and dust update and southern dlc tho this game was legitimately middling I had bought it before we got these updates basically bought it like a month after it came out hell even th romance moments more of them were added with acknowledgement the game was majorly improved it is not a knock on the game but it took a while before wandering Sword became a good game imo.I mean, its not a vastly branching story. Nah, i disagree. I think its a great game. Idk what is middling according to you. The writing is genuinely good. The Eastern Seas dlc wasnt my favorite but it built up on few characters. It doesnt really have any impact on the main story and is more of an offshoot. The HAC and the SC dlc adds a lot to the game and it holds to the main story too. I can understand it might have been undercooked before the dlc but the game is worth it just for its story and characters. It's decent now it is overall a good game before ashes and dust update and southern dlc tho this game was legitimately middling I had bought it before we got these updates basically bought it like a month after it came out hell even th romance moments more of them were added with acknowledgement the game was majorly improved it is not a knock on the game but it took a while before wandering Sword became a good game imo.
When did you play it tho?I said it used to be middling unless you played it before we got ashes and dust then you don't know how it was lol all of the shine others get is because of ashes and dust really now Unless you think before ashes and dust the game was good then sure i guess we have different opinions ashes and dust was added back in October 2024 and changed the game completely so that's why I said it was middling if you played it recently you never played the original game it's night and day difference between them. Now it is a good game for sure.Nah, i disagree. I'm gonna try Hero's adventure again and see if its as good as you guys say. I might still drop it if its very unserious and has unecessary humour scenes like it does in prologue deep into the game.
Yeah i just finished it a few days back so idk how worse off it was before the expansions. Now it is a good game for sure.
As for eastern dlc yeah it was fine to me but I wasn't talking about it at all.
Funny moments are fine by me, but will the story be majority unserious? Like serious moments ruined by unserious moments and stuff like that? Still, ill play it anyway cuz i actually dropped wandering sword a year back since i wasnt big on tactical rpg gameplay. It took much effort on my part to look past the gameplay of Baldur's gate trilogy even though the 3rd game gameplay was good in its field.I restared wandering sword a month or so back and absolutely locked in. Maybe it will be the same when i restart Hero's adventure. I'm actually installing it atm.I don't think you will be able to play hero's adventure atleast if you want to the old man sect run which imo is deffo needed for first runs.Since he helps a lot and he is basically like the old grandpa so the game will have funny moments with him that said you should get the art dlc and change the art style of the game.
Serious moments are serious no comedy like handling the dukes, Army stuff and many other major stuff those are all serious the entire Western region content I don't think that has a single comic moment.Yeah i just finished it a few days back so idk how worse off it was before the expansions.

I'm currently playing on chaos mood, gonna be atleast 1k old before I beat that pavilion last boss so I'm taking it slow and steady, prolly still be playing it by DecemberWell it's not perfect or anything but I found it quite fun.
