Free Content Inclusions:

Your update will consist of the continuation of Chapter 4, which is roughly around 50k words. There’s no formal “what to expect” for this one, but the continuation will mostly revolve around the test matches and watching the consequences of the choice you made in Chapter 3 take effect. It will also feature deeper lore details about three of the lead characters.

Summary:

The flute plays, crafty and sweetly. You wake up in the City in the Clouds, alive and without your memories. They say you possess the Astravore. And your hands will stop the Eremition.

You wake up suddenly in a bright, unknown room, with no recollection of who you are or where you come from, your only memory a gentle dream of an ethereal being and confusing words.

Looking outside a window you see a wondrous, downright miraculous thing: an empire built in the clouds, a floating city made of gold, jewels and glittering skyscrapers.

You are in Nephele, the name calling forth something ancient and powerful inside of you.

The people you meet revere you as the descendant of Ysoriel, the comet goddess who birthed this incredible oasis. They say you possess her White Blood, the Astravore, making you the rightful ruler of the City in the Clouds.

Now, you are burdened with an urgent cause: sealing the fate of the mysterious being accused of causing the Eremition, a phenomenon responsible for making the city slowly, but surely, descend into the grounds.

As you assume the mantle of Divine Sovereign, however, you begin to question the veracity of the truths fed to you, as you learn about the existence of cruel, unforgiving Councilors, their puppet ruler and the identity of the one viewed as a criminal by many.

Claim your place as the rightful ruler of Nephele and save your home. On the way, you may even find a Consort to call your own.

For as long as you can remember, your dream has stayed the same—you want nothing more than to make it as an actor in Hollywood. After years as an overlooked, overworked talent, your big break comes from an unlikely source. And it’s one that changes everything, for better or worse.
Hollywood is its own character within this world—sometimes it loves you, sometimes it wants nothing more than to see you crash and burn. Navigating this ever-changing landscape while balancing your own interpersonal relationships is only half the challenge. The other half is memorising your lines.
Navigate the red carpet, bloodthirsty paparazzi, cut-throat tabloids and complicated relationship dynamics with A-list celebrities (who may or may not be completely insane)
But, hey, isn’t this what you’ve always wanted?


Key Features:
- Customise your Actor: are you a classic Hollywood heartthrob? An eccentric and unconventional recluse? Are you kind and genuine despite the fame, or a cutthroat diva with undeniable talent?
- Navigate scandal, paparazzi, and stan culture: dodge or embrace the flashing lights. Interact with your fans, or distance yourself from them for your sanity. Wait—who are they shipping your character with?
- Build your legacy: choose between the stability of superhero blockbusters or turn into an indie darling. Or, maybe forgo both to become a household name in the horror genre.
- Network and build relationships: whether they’re manufactured by your well-meaning publicist or spawned from real feelings, forge dynamic and ever-changing relationships with other industry icons.
- Try to manage your mental health: the dark side of the industry lurks in every corner—the highs are high, but the lows are ever lower.


Characters:

- Sutton Foster (he/him, she/her)—child star turned award-winning powerhouse. Sutton Foster has everything an actor could want—well, minus the countless stays at rehab centres around the world. It’s undeniable that Sutton is a generational talent, but what’s even more notable is their messy personal life. You yourself have been caught in Sutton’s gravitational pull, once upon a time. The question lies in whether or not you’ll pull yourself away.

- Wyn Grace (he/him, she/her)—on stage, Wyn is electric. The same cannot be said for Wyn off-stage. The lead singer of the up-and-coming Indie band is struggling with their meteoric rise to fame. As the awards pile up and the crowds get bigger, Wyn is unraveling at the seams. All they wanted to do was make music with their friends, but fame makes them reconsider it all.

- Lex Moreau (he/him)—an older, award-winning director with an…eccentric disposition. Yet despite his volatile nature and obsession with perfection, anyone who’s anyone would kill to work with him. Lex is always in search of a muse, a great beacon to pour all of his artistic vision into. And now, he thinks he’s found that in you. Lucky you?

[C is a conditional character, only appears based on the choices you make.]
- Carlo/Carmen Mencina (gender selectable)—C is harder to pin down than a stable acting gig in LA. When you’re together—it’s kismet. The problem lies in when you’re apart. C’s frequent disappearances abroad leave a bad taste in your mouth, and when a shocking truth comes to light, it’s not just your relationship in the spotlight—it’s your life, too.
Flings and other mini-romances will be available as well. But these I will let be revealed as the story progresses.

If authors are going to describe complexion and skin colour with colours can they at least look up the colours they use? Or at least use colours that don't have to be googled before you know what they're referring to? This has ebony as a skin colour choice, and when I searched it up ebony is either some shade of green or black.

Update: The Midnight Bay (Chapter 3 & 4)

A/N: Finally! I've spent every moment of my free time this past week preparing this update. There were a lot more little rewrites in it since I was re-reading parts for continuity between dialogue options and ended up cringing at some of the clunkier writing, haha.

There is a post over on my Patreon for what the beta build update includes. Here's the link if you are interested.

Features:

- Completed CH3! Explore your relationship with Selby!
- Entirety of CH4, too! Spend some time with your best friend or your archenemy.
- Make friends. Make enemies. They might even be the same person.
- Create as many questions as you answer.

The demo length is now around 140k words.

Please note: any old saves will be broken. A lot of stuff was rearranged in the code. Also, there have been some rewrites — it's worth rereading for the little details.

Chains of Destiny is back!!
Hey everyone!

I hope you’re all doing great! Just wanted to let you know that I’ve finally uploaded the ‘beta’ version of Chapter 3!

This update brings 210k additional words to the game. However, keep in mind it is still in ‘beta’, so many choices are still WIP, and there are some additional variations from previous chapters that still need to be implemented. As the framework is largely there, I’ll continue to work on the WIP choices and variations and release small monthly updates where I add everything I’ve completed before moving on to part 2.

There are a lot of new variables, so you will need to start a new save to play the update. I’ve heard that cogdemos asks you to restart the game when there are some big changes in a chapter. So, to avoid forcing you to restart constantly, I won’t be updating the demo for small things (like typos) until the next update, only for fixing more serious bugs. Neverthless, if you spot any inconsistencies, errors, or things that seem off, please let me know! Also, if you have any feedback, critiques, or suggestions, feel free to share them with me!

A couple of other important things:

First, I’ve decided to remove all AI generated images from the game and my tumblr. From now on, this project will only contain human art.

Second, since the game is getting huge (and the variations are getting tricky to test alone) I’m going to post a form next week to recruit some beta readers/testers. I’m not sure how many people will be interested, so I’ll decide how many testers to ‘take on’ based on the responses.

Third, is well…an apology. This update took far longer than it should have, and while the common excuses still apply (life happened, update got bigger than I thought), a 7 month silence on the forum is not okay. From now on, I’m going to post monthly progress updates on here just as I do on my tumblr so everyone stays informed regardless of the platform you use.
