You're a soldier in a futuristic world with magic and an exosuit like Edge of Tomorrow. You're fighting against either a supernatural threat or just rebels, you're girl gets converted by said enemies etc etc.

I've heard that if you don't follow the author's main path you wouldn't get any good endings, and the game will end abruptly. It's keeping me away from playing it. Do you have any thoughts regarding this?

Well I'm not Admiral Hackett but that's just straight up 4K HDR bullshit and it takes all the "choice" from a CYOA like at that point just make it a kinetic story and remove all of the choices :v
And I also get that most stories also have like one ending but you'll get them by making different choices and a different outcome depending on plot or stat and just "Ah you pick the wrong one get ****ed LMAO"
Yeah, it's been a hot minute(years) since I last played it, so I can't exactly comment on the specifics on this. I do know choosing one path makes saving your RO basically impossible. Perhaps that's what they meant?
