Public Updates (CogDemos, Itchio and VNs)

Update: Kindling

A/N: I have updated the public demo with 7k new words, bringing the total to 50k. I admit, most of that is contained in the Freya conversation branch.

Update: Chasing Stars (Chapter 2)

A/N: I've been editing and playtesting at godless hours so I'm pretty sure there are glaring mistakes my sleep deprived brain has completely ignored but I fixed a loooot of bugs and Chapter Two is now up and ready for you to read.

The 44k that "will probably increase" have turned into 61k. I added flavour text concerning MC's appearance, I diversified the tone of Mattea's scenes because I wanted her behaviour to be very different depending on whether your MC's a Brat or a Good Girl, and I also extended and added a few dialogue choices and reactions on the second part of the demo.

I'm not completely satisfied with this chapter, especially with Mattea's scenes but I'm not sure if it's the scenes themselves, or the fact that I've read them all one after the other again and again while editing, and now they're like all mixed in my brain. When I go over them again in a couple weeks with a fresher mind I might change stuff.

Even though a lot of the new content is shared paragraphs with flavour text 61k is still a lot more than I was going for. There goes my 'I don't want chapters to be much longer than 40k' speech.

PS. Still haven't completed the WIP scene for Claire's hookup in chapter one. Sorry! I've really been busy.
I'm going to break the rules for a query that I have: Am I reading this wrong or if you want to see which stats affects or is check when picking a choice the game will lock stuff away?

New IF: A Promise

Summary:

For as long as you knew yourself, you lived as a wandering knight. You rode with your family across the desert, participating in as many tourneys as you could. You searched for a cure for your sister's mysterious ailment as well, visiting sawbones, alchemists and all sorts of odd people along your travels. Your life brought no fame or glory to you, nor did it give you the answers you sought. Wherever you went, very few people cared about you. Such is the life of a wandering knight, after all.

It did not matter much however. Nights passed by around a fire in peace, and mornings always began with laughs and jests. Arguments did always happen, but they faded away as fast as they came. No matter what happened, your family stood strong on its feet.

Yet as they say, no life goes on unbroken.

Today, you ride to Bene Sallo, yet another city where the biggest tourney of the century is being held. It promises more gold than you ever heard in your entire life, more than enough to build your own home and even figure out what is wrong with your sister. You can only hope that it will end well for all of you.

Features:

- Choose your name, gender, appearance, and how you would like others to call you.
- Travel through the desert and the lands beyond, see the world that you never needed to care about before.
- Meet a plethora of all sorts of people, from the highest to the lowest. Befriend some, love others, and be wary of the rest.
- Decide how you will survive, and what you will become.

Update: Romance of The Damned (Chapter 2 Part 2)

A/N: The second part of Chapter 2 is finally up and ready to completely destroy whatever remaining peace our protagonist thought he had.

With this update, the full WIP now sits at roughly 40K words with code, and 37K words without.

Picking up exactly where we left off, the agonizing, silent standoff in the clubroom is officially interrupted by our very first “client”—a delusional chuunibyou who managed to stumble into the absolute worst room on campus.

If Chapter 1 was about building the locked-room mystery, Chapter 2 Part Two is about completely dismantling the protagonist’s ego. I decided to lean heavily into the sheer exhaustion of high-society psychological warfare. You will get to experience a four-way Mexican standoff disguised as a debate over a fishing proverb, witness Kanashiro Kana mathematically weaponize her lack of empathy, and finally watch the protagonist realize that his “genius” deductions were actually just him walking blindly into a bear trap set by Fukami Reika.

As I mentioned recently over on Tumblr, you will also notice the shift in the mechanical design here. The story is adopting a much tighter Visual Novel structure. Your choices in this update—like deciding whether to “participate normally” or “be the pollution that ruins the air”—won’t magically save the protagonist from his fate. Instead, they dictate the exact flavor of his humiliation and determine whether Kana or Reika respects him for it.

On a much more sentimental note: I want to dedicate this update in celebration of Oregairu’s 15th Anniversary.

It is no secret that My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected is the foundational DNA of this project. Hachiman, Yukino, and the Service Club completely redefined the high school cynic genre, and this WIP started as a direct love letter to that dynamic.

However, with the conclusion of this update, the “homage” phase is officially over. The training wheels have been taken off, and the club’s true, overarching objective has finally cast its shadow. We are no longer just fixing minor high school drama; we are dealing with systemic, elite social sabotage. Romantic Comedy of the Damned is now walking its own twisted, deeply uncomfortable path. Let’s see where it goes in Part Three.

New IF: Soft As Steel

Summary:

You are a mistake—that’s what you’ve been told all your life—a curse, a bane, a burden. Now, you are given a chance to prove them wrong, or live up to the claims.

The Ursa-Frost tribe is a close-knit and fiercely loyal clan. Living in the cold north, they are both hardened yet brimming with life. The same hand that gently pats your head, could snap another’s neck without hesitation. After finding you half-buried in snow, they took you in and treated you as one of them.

Once you had watched merely them through a screen; now they stand before you, in flesh and blood.

Unaware of the danger that lurks in their own home; of the voice that commands you, hungering for chaos—a voice that slowly begins to sound like your own.

Will you fight back against the story, grasping to hope that you can all live peacefully? Or will you follow the whims of fate, revelling in the chaos?

Features:

- Choose between three types of beastkin; a snowy owl, an artic fox, or a snow hare. Each species has their own strengths and weakness, as well as exclusive scenes/ dialogues.
- Shape how your character acts; is she bold or shy? Quick to joke or earnest to a fault? Can she hide her emotions or do they control her?
- Form bonds with the lively Ursa-Frost clan—whether as enemies or allies.
- Fight against the voice in your head or heeds its command—or show it just how ruthless you can be.

It's just a game, right?

Disclaimer:

This game is gender-locked female and has only 1 RO; you may choose to pursue a platonic or enemy route—I might even add flings but no gurantee—but the prominent RO will remain only one. Depending on your choices, the romance/ relationship might even become… disturbing. Tread carefully.

In this game, you are allowed to be an insufferable, petty and frankly ‘evil’ character—just don’t be surprised if consequences are had. Similarly, you can also play a character with good-intentions—but don’t be surprised if you’re not always rewarded for it.

(and yes, I forgot I couldn’t change the game title on Cogdemos after setting it—oh well).

New IF: Bright Eyed (Chapter 1 & 2)
(Gender-locked male!)

What is Bright Eyed?

A free-to-play (read) interactive fantasy novel in development, a book where you "play" as the main character as you read, and you can shape your character and make choices for him, just as if it were a video game.

What are its main features that I can look forward to?

- Choice-based, highly customizable physical appearance within the cultural scope of what constitutes an elven Lord in the universe.
- An organically integrated morality system where your choices develop and shape your outlook on the world over time.
- Become a role model for your people to emulate and defend ancient traditions, or chase glory and build a Legend for yourself instead.
- Choose your gifts wisely, from selections of exclusive racial talents, mythical swords and more, or refuse gifts and make the game harder.
- A male main character with one ongoing female romance and more coming later.
- A rich high-elf culture and lore, fitting prose and slightly slower pace compared to traditional choice based action/adventure games.
- Play a key part in determining the future of your race, the Thanai (High-elves), explore the unknown, discover lost secrets and determine the nature of the relationship your isolationist yet frightning race develops with the humans/the outside world.

New IF: This Time It's Different

tumblr_864ece9ecc0d6359c0f6128e0e03e1dc_b78f89c6_1280.jpg

Summary:

River Point, Oregon, is anything but normal. Missing people is just another conversation over coffee, and car crashes are just something you don't pay attention to. You've lived your whole life like that, not paying attention to the news, the helicopters just becoming background noise to everyday life. However, everything changed for you and for your family when your older sibling died in one of those accidents.

You all try to move on, your parents stopped fighting, and they actually stopped talking to each other in general. You're left to take care of your little sister, but that isn't before you go to college. A couple of months after you graduated, you're called back to River Point to take care of your younger sister. The same hospital that took care of you when you were younger called you, telling you that you're your younger sister's emergency contact. Not your parents. You.

Now it's time to go back home, back to that town, back to that hospital, back to those people.

As mentioned before, your older sibling died in a car 'accident' when you were younger, and yes, you were in the car with them. You've never stopped blaming yourself. I think it's time to forgive yourself, no?

Features:

- Choose who you are: gender, pronouns, what you look like, how you dress, what you like or don't like, and your personality.
- Romanticize your life: Out of three RO's in the beginning, choose your relationship type: friends-to-lovers, enemies-to-lovers, soulmates, childhood friends-to-lovers, and many more to come. Or you can choose to be happily single as well ;)
- Pick your therapy animal given to you: Choose a lovable golden retriever, a calming calico cat, or a gentle rabbit! (many more animals to come).
- Your therapy journey: Choose to heal, fight back, or to never forget.
- What's your majorrrr?: Are you a certified psychologist, or a sweet kindergarten teacher? - Pick whichever major suits you! You have a wide range of careers to choose from. I promise it's not just those two!
- Pick your humble abode: Do you live in a cramped but cozy apartment? Maybe you live in a spacious townhouse. Or, do you live in that same old house you grew up in, with your older siblings' untouched room that gathers dust behind the locked door? Wait—why is it locked?
- Figure out what really happened to your sibling: Was it really just a freak accident? Or was it something else entirely?

P.S.: Wear headphones!

New IF: The Starweaver's Dream (Prologue)

tumblr_229a61dd788c69efa288b721cd82aa19_5d1b2219_1280.jpg

In an empire where the heavens have gone silent, only you can speak to them.

The Starweaver's Dream is a romantic high-fantasy interactive fiction inspired by the rich tapestry of South Asian history and mythology.

Summary:

Possessed of a rare gift long dismissed as myth, you harbour the ability to divine using the literal threads of starlight that form the tapestry of time. When your sacred power finally draws the attention of the palace, the royals summon you to the capital and give you the title of Nursrava, the voice of the divine light. Once you arrive, you expect to live out your days in quiet service to the royal family.

Instead, you discover that the kingdom is on the brink of a collapse. A desperate crisis is unfolding beneath the palace's majestic facade, and your power makes you the ultimate prize. You are no longer a guest but rather a pawn caught up in the struggle between those who seek to exploit your power and those desperate to protect you and your precious gift.

Within the palace's vast stone halls, those you choose to mingle with may decide your fate. Whether your growing closeness arises from a forbidden glance during an encounter or a whispered promise in the dark, you must choose whom to trust with your life — and your heart.

Amidst the swiftly crumbling politics of this kingdom, you are the only one who can see the truth — but in a court built on lies, the truth may be more dangerous than you realize. As the walls close in, you must decide: will you surrender to the duty expected of you, or risk everything for the one who finally captures your heart?

Features:

- Choose your gender (male, female, non-binary), physical traits and the gender(s) you are attracted to.
- Shape your personality to reflect the kind of Nursrava you want to be.
- Pick one of four potential romance options (either all male, all female or a random mix of genders): The Silver Tongue, The Exiled Sun, The Silent Shadow or The Celestial Anchor.
- Shift the balance of courtly alliances and choose how involved you want to be in the kingdom's future.

Update: Summer Of Love

tumblr_ef0b9cb832816f65d869ec339b4d32eb_fc4f74d7_1280.jpg

What's changed:
Chapter 2 is Day 1, Part 2, the afternoon after the coupling. It's a single, continuous scene: all ten islanders, one sofa, one game of Never Have I Ever that runs for the rest of the day.

What happens:
The coupling's done. Izzie has an idea.
Never Have I Ever starts as a warmup and becomes something else entirely, ten rounds that get progressively harder to answer, covering drunk texts, old exes, blocking and unblocking, being engaged, cheating, stringing someone along, and staying too long.
Your MC gets a turn. You choose the prompt, and six distinct options shape what the second half of the game becomes.
Every round is a choice: drink boldly, drink quietly, drink and laugh, or don't drink at all. A few round have the option to not drink when you should, but know that will have consequences later down the line.

Word count:
78k words total. As with Chapter 1, individual playthroughs are a fraction of that, as the word count reflects the branching across ten rounds, six different MC prompts, every islander's individual reactions, and the quiet accumulation of things that will matter later.

A note on this chapter:
Chapter 2 is quieter than Chapter 1, as it's one location, no new arrivals, no ceremony. What it is instead is a room of ten people becoming, gradually, something other than strangers. The game is the vehicle. What it makes is the point.

New IF: Phantom Thief: Money's For Fools

THE STORY

Dash through rooftops. Sneak around guards. Slither past defense systems.

Live the life of a phantom thief in this interactive fiction game. Plan five different heists while managing your time and resources. Fail and go to jail! But you can always try to escape.

Can you stop your brother from going down your father’s dark path, or will you simply screw them over for your own ends?

(The game currently features a prologue heist, an interlude chapter about your backstory, and the free roam section of the first chapter. 87k+ words.)

FEATURES

- Customize your character's gender, sexual orientation, appearance, personality and more!
- Customize your thief persona: choose an alias, thief archetype, and motivation!
- Pursue romance, or friendship, with several characters: the annoying genius detective on your heels, a reporter obsessed with your feats, your ardent rival thief, a kind barista at your favorite cafe, or your sleazy fence.
- Go through five different heists where success depends on your choices and preparation.
- If you fail, get arrested and try to escape prison!
- Deal with the ghosts of your past. Stop your sibling from going down your father's dark path, or simply screw them over for your own ends.

THE CAST

(RO - Romantic Options. Only the reporter and superhero are fixed as women. Though that might change in the future.)

- The Detective is the pebble in your shoe, the sound to your footsteps, the Sherlock to your Lupin. They have been chasing you for as long as you have been active. A do-gooder addicted to mysteries, and possibly you?

- The Fence is your long time partner in crime. Kept at arm's length, as all criminal friends should be. They are extremely resourceful and well connected. You couldn't do your job without them, but maybe you could without all their blatant dishonest flirting.
The Rival is exactly as they sound like. A phantom thief much like yourself, donning a domino mask and something of a musketeer's outfit. You have squabbled over the same marks dozen upon dozens of times, but this time it's personal.

- The Reporter has been making you front line news ever since your first high profile heist. With a slouched demeanor, a goofy writing style, and an ill-fitting appearance, you can't help but think they are closer than you realize.
The Super-Hero is exactly the type of do-gooder you have always desperately tried to avoid. Your biggest tool to do so? Speed and the element of surprise. You don't have powers to go toe to toe with someone like this. So why the hell are they even bothering with you instead of Kaijus or mad scientists?
The Barista serves at a cafe you have started to frequent. Friendly and calm, they couldn't be more different than you. Yet... maybe that is exactly what you need right now?
