"Shadow of the Eagles" 0.6.2 - Paul Wang

I think you should've punch the man who thinks that it is a good idea to appoint this sorry excuse of a failure as a wing commander.
Under the Bourbons, the commanders of armies were chosen not by ability or experience, but by court connections and bloodline. It had been a system which had created some excellent commanders, and a vast number of inept ones. It was a system which was paid for by the lives of hundreds of thousands of French soldiers, squandered over the course of centuries by the incompetent orders of men who had no business leading even a corporal's guard, given control over vast armies because of their titles and ancestry.

The Revolution was supposed to have done away with that ridiculous travesty of a system. It was supposed to elevate the experienced and the talented over the well-born. The result had been the generation of talented commanders which had led the Republic to victory, and which had placed the Emperor on his throne.

Now, it seems the Emperor is restoring that system once again. Why else would he put a twenty-seven year old wastrel in charge of a hundred thousand soldiers, over the heads of officers far more experienced and deserving? He has made it clear that the Bonaparte name means more than talent, more than experience, more than even a Marshal's baton

Is it just me or the pace of writing has slowed considerably last 2 months? Also now it doesn't even feel like our choices matter in many cases. I feel like sometimes we just get page 3 pages of back-story for 1 choice

It's probably because cataphrak want to rest to not burn out. Also I actually think our choices still matter a lot if you're a minister war and get a good job you can make both war in spain and Austria way smoother than real history and if you're a marshal in russia you can turn battle of Smolensk to an actual decisive victory

i think its also partly because he wants the Russian campaign to be as inevitable as possible, like its basically Napoleons canon event... so thats probably why so far our contribution feels limited (among many other story factors)

how do you burn dumas' letter to skip klausen? it also feels like you can do something with the letter given to davout before the battle of äuerstadt?
I think you Need to have silver in Déception
Also for Davout Yes if you stand your Ground against Berthier twice a Bravery check will appear that you can choose causing him to Rewrite Napealon orders to be more Clear
Thought
everytime you stand your Ground you lose some Reputation i dont remember how much

And if you are asking about standing up to Berthier it is the one where He gives Unclear orders to Bernadotte to either reinfroce Davout or still continue marching

how to successfully abolish slavery in alexandria without inciting a revolt (as a woman mc):

- on arrival, take kleber's prisoner under your wing and accept his advice to wear a headcover/cover yourself up

- abolish slavery (i recommend paying/hiring the now-free slaves too). after this, you dont need to do any more improvement, just devote all free time with improving skills of your choice.

- do events that make marmont happy (successfully tell a lie about the ottoman war declaration, personally help with repairing the ruins, save the savants, send the savants to cairo)

once you leave, alexandria will be pretty peaceful (not sure if enough to make marmont your friend) while having the time to improve your skills

if you want to roleplay then technically you can also devote all free time with dealing the bedouins or doing all public good works

beware that this nets you less bonaparte favor (especially when you take kleber's prisoner for yourself, you get -30) than usual and i dont think you get +10 once you return to cairo like usual

im not exactly sure of any other way to help sorry, these are the exact actions i took to successfully do it. the only thing i can additionally say is that when you arrive at alexandria after saving el-korayyim and it says "for now atleast. the city seems quiet. your rule is tolerated, if not exactly welcomed." you can abolish slavery without any hiccups

i just redid this section to make sure there was no other event before this that can skew the results, but i dont think theres any. maybe you could do the discipline check when you land at alexandria before the death march? though i doubt that directly helps with order in the city

maybe you could also abolish slavery only after the night battle? if skill improvement is not your concern, you could also devote all attention with improving alexandria first until your rule is tolerated/high enough, then you can abolish slavery afterwards

abolishing slavery has a major mention once you leave. gameplay wise, it gives you +25 glory for free and if no revolt, then you can keep it too but you'll miss out on +10 bonaparte favor.

doing all public good works and dealing with the sailors and soldiers just helps with marmont friendship and order. you can get him as a friend if the slot isnt taken yet and +10 bonaparte favor. in my opinion, if you arent planning to abolish slavery, you can get by with just 1 public good works or even none at all and you dont need to deal with the sailors and soldiers, doing all side events correctly should be enough to secure bonaparte and marmonts approval, which means you can devote all that time for your skills instead
