Stories that left you disappointed for a reason

true but that does mean smaller writers get promoted because most people knows about interact-if's existence if they're on tumblr
I mean I don't have a problem with promotion, I think it's a great idea to give people fresh ideas instead of the same If that keep going round. I find it's a double edge sword as you now have the pressure of fans wanting something you might not be ready for.

You'd think that, but as someone who's been in the writers IF discord server, I can tell you that that toxic positivity and encouragement is only directed at you NOT wanting to write.
Prime example would be how a bunch of folks on there would be like "oh, I haven't felt like writing, in like a month", and everyone would be kissing their ***, being like "oh that's okay! Take your time, I only managed to write 100 words in a month, blah blah". I'm not even joking, that's literally how it goes, and what "Vent" channel is used primarily for
I am not an author (though occasionally I do work with real, published book authors) but as a reader I see no problem with someone being in a creative rut UNLESS they are taking money from their readers. If you have a paid sub, you are providing a service, and so you need to follow certain obligations. If it's a hobby project, do whatever. Like, do I get disappointed when absolutely free passion projects get abandoned? Yes, but I don't judge. If someone took money from people for months and then just dropped the thing with no explanation? Well, that's not just a lack of integrity, but also a disservice to other IF authors because people might be more hesitant to support them after a bad experience with someone else.

...that being said, how the hell does abyssal author manage to post a tiniest updates once a blue moon but still gets around 800 usd a month? I am mad because I like the story, but charging people for not even a chapter worth of content is scummy.

Absolutely, and to do it justice, I will say that it's half and half. Meaning, there are the ones who don't have Patreons and who just don't want to write, and there are also the ones who do have Patreons but also don't want to write. I've seen cases of both, and I also want to point out that I completely agree with you. Passion project/hobby I get, even though it does suck, but having people pay for nothing boggles me. Though to be completely honest, people are known to throw money, so there's that (I am keeping it vague for various reasons)
