Stories that left you disappointed for a reason

Dragon covenant, Broken fable and Dao ascension (although this last one dont take itself seriously/seems more like a funny parody)
Broken fable doesn't count. They're powerful, but not really OP. Although there are a few overpowered NPCs...

I haven't even heard of the first one 🤔 What is it about?

I’d have to disagree. This is just my opinion, but I’ve noticed that even though the author claims to be against romance-related asks, they still tend to talk a lot about Stevie ( who also is the only one who can have a crush on MC ) and occasionally Zima. The asks about Stevie are always long, and full of praise, and the author often jumps in to defend her. But when it comes to Angel, the responses are brief and noticeably less enthusiastic.
It was my impression after playing WiP 🤷 I avoid the author's Tumblr so I have no idea what they are talking there. But does it matter? Writers have the right to have preferences when it comes to their characters - the point is these preferences do not have a negative impact on the story.

Stevie might be a little too much of a Miss Perfect, but apart from that, I guess, there's nothing wrong with this character.

Btw. Scapegoated sounds really cool, but female gender locked is a big no for me 😔

Seven can be emotionally stunted. Seven can even be a parody of emotionally stunted person if the author wishes. But the author should let MC be more mature. Give an options to completely cut off from them - because some players don't give a **** about Seven and their dramas.
Agreed, but the thing that annoys me (and im sure many others) about these games is not the existence of emotionally stunted adults, its that you have to like them. there's no choice about ignoring them or hating them that actually follows through.

Another thing that i personally don't like is that the mc has to be stunted like them. Just the lack of choice with no justifiable reason frustrates me. I don't think people hate Seven, i think they hate being forced to love them. Noone says people like this dont exist, but its annoying when their actions get constantly excused by the authors.
Is it really that bad? Every time this comes up on the COG forum, people there usually say: "You can completely ignore Seven if you want to/Your MC is pathetic because you play them that way." Honestly, I've never tried playing anyone except my ridiculous MC pining for Seven (I just like this crazy tension between them too much).

In my opinion, people are over-exaggerating Seven. I played it several times, different MCs with different reactions and I never felt like the author forced me to feel with Seven one way or another. It seems more like a case of people hating a character so much that the character's very existence is the problem. 🐢

There are new WIPs like Blink, Project Variant, Shadows of Halcyon (just out of the oven, very new and lots of bugs), Demon Fireforged (to an extent)... uhh... that's all I got 🥲
Easier to count how many WIPs there are where the MC is a push-over lol

There’s also a WIP, which I forgot the name, where you wake up with an old man taking care of you, and eventually he and his son try to eat you. They turn out to be the mayor’s parents or something, and the village wants to kill you. That one was really bad and rushed, but it had potential.

Duskguard (I think)
I dunno why, but it just felt odd to me lol

Duskguard another case of an author being too ambitious with too many branching paths and dialogues. From the conversations I had with him he was struggling on release two conversations because their were like 7 different version of the conversations and this was like release 2 lol. I don’t like it, but understand why most authors make stories more linear and railroady. These new authors are different, I can tell by the premise and how excited an author is first drop if a WIP will be finished or not. Like war of the divines another newer wip that I’m 100% certain will not get 5 more updates too ambitious. Like you eventually get tired of writing same scene over and over with different variations of it, pretty sure that was Broken Fable author problem he got tired of writing same scenes

Nowadays, when I see WIPs, I can almost instantly tell which ones will be abandoned and which will be completed. One with a complex or unique concept? I just shake my head, because deep down I know it'll probably get dropped. Meanwhile, the most generic romance or slice-of-life stories are the ones that always get finished. No wonder, they're easier to write.

Road to eutopia my beloved. It had a fantastic premise and interesting ros and it's tumblr is currently dead.

There's a new gender-locked IF based on Pride and Prejudice, and the MC is male! That was a surprise as I was very sure it would be a gender-locked female. Currently reading it, the flow is A-okay and though the writer puts a long a55 disclaimer about not being a native English speaker, I haven't seen any mistakes... yet! Idk this one got me hyped. Here's hoping it will be good and not get dropped like Flower of Fairmont.

Also the lack of Tumblr page is a plus.

Sounds good! Do you mind sharing the link or the name of this game?

It's called Autumn Wind: https://cogdemos.ink/play/laderyuss/autumn-winds/mygame

Just finished reading the demo, and it was awesome! Even if gender-locked, we can play as an overachieved lord of a high standing (a marquis, above everyone else except for duke and the royal of course). The scenes with the perfect MC is so hilariously over the top, it actually got a few giggles out of me. The prose is a bit confusing sometimes but otherwise it's simple enough to understand the big picture. It has built-in mod to max out skills and attributes too. It has its flaws of course, but it can easily be overlooked. It is wordy, and long, and definitely more book than gameplay.

*did I say "overachieved"? It should be over accomplished!

I'm playing right rn...and it's awesome lol!

Dragon's Covenant seems interesting, but it has so much Gptism in it that I can't bring myself to play it more. At least the author admits he used AI, though not for everything and mainly to translate from his native language to English.

I feel like AI is becoming way too common in IFs now. Out of many WIPs I've played, I felt like a lot of them had AI involved.

mainly to translate from his native language to English.
I've always written in English, even tho it's not my native language... which is probably the reason why I'm decent at it by now
Like you're not gonna improve if AI does it for you...
But I get it, for many people skill or improvement or whatever is not the point, and I'm just old-fashioned I guess
Tbh I largely stopped going to the forums, or following WIPs aside of the few I already know and like ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Eh you can never be too careful especially on the internet, writing in broken English would get you stomped in some online spaces. Plus honestly the broken English I personally won’t won’t read a story with it, I used to try when I was heavily into novels read MTL and sorry but can’t do it. So I understand why you would use it to translate I understand. If you know English why use Ai that’s just being lazy. Honestly Ai is inevitable tbh, just waiting until more spaces start openly accepting it. It will only get better. The only downside is people just throwing out the Ai accusations with 0 proof. Or people who don’t admit to using it, honestly with stable diffusion you can make some really consistent art and that’s actually scary.
