What is an immediate red flag for you guys?

why any of the martial arts stories aren't gender locked
I'd prefer them not to be genderlocked for pretty much the same reason it's fine for something like Wayhaven to not be genderlocked: bias or no bias, having an option is better than having no option.
I've zero idea what the current state of POMA is, but I do enjoy AC a lot, and idk, it doesn't bother me that someone might be getting more options somewhere. We already had this discussion on the disappointment thread though xD

While it happens more often with female locked stories, I still don't understand why any of the martial arts stories aren't gender locked. POMA, Dao Ascension, Aura Clash, all these suffer from the same problem of obviously being written with a male MC and a straight male audience in mind. While Dao Ascension gets away with it because the MC is purely a self-insert, with POMA and Aura Clash it can be glaring.
True. Though I think the Aura Clash reason is more so that the author probably doesn't know how to write other types of romances that aren't straight, and even then I feel like Aura Clash kinda lacks on that as well, even the supposed "Explicit" scenes aren't that explicit lol.

He mentioned in his Patreon he was pissed at the forums because people kept asking for other forms of romance that wasn't straight.

* Having less than 100k words of wip but having a patron.
*Going months and months without commenting about the next update.
*Updating after much time has passed and it's just 20 or 10k words.
*Having so many love interests that you the player lose count of them
*The characters automatically reverting to a different personality even when your player's personality is different for example when your character is cold/reserved but does things that goes contrary to that personality type.
*Skipping a whole route, just so they can go to the next chapter.
*When the story obviously suits a specific gender but gives you the choice to pick a gender
That's all I can remember.

Oh yeah, when the author and the fanbase doesn't accept any form of criticism, or if the author is easily forced or bullied to give a character a specific gender or sexuality..... What else? Yeah.

I stay away from following a specific story just to avoid the drama but yes... Yes...

*When the game forces you the player to have a specific thought without giving the opportunity to choose
Hmm

I never played the female route. How bad is it? Do you at least get different reactions/lines?
Depends on the story. For Aura Clash, while you do get different reactions/lines (honestly much much better than POMA in that regard) it's still very obviously tailored to a straight male audience and assumes that the reader is male with a lot of it's jokes/fan service. Some parts just feel empty playing as a female vs playing as a male eg. Character relationships especially with female characters.

Still miles better than POMA though.

POMA had some opportunity to deepen some stuff when it comes to a female protag. Xianxia in general has great potential usually for female protags. The fact that people dont expect you to be the clan leader (or in the future) now since your dad was/is such a womanizer and was THE guy apparently, so the relationship between father and daughter on that aspect could have some very cool angles. Like Maka and Spirit from Soul Eater sort of dynamic lol

I feel you, this happens to both sides, I’ve played a few games like Fields of Asphodel where there shouldn’t have been a male option to begin with.

Played it too. Also, is it just me or Fields of Asphodel is just too cramped with the texts? I literally couldn't remember character names or how they looked like after like two pages from just sheer, huge lines and convoluted stuff.

Either that or I'm running a run from the mill for JJK fans and I have no reading comprehension.

People should stop trying to retell Persephone and Demeter's story. I personally don't mind having a male option in mythology games based off of stories with goddesses but a lot of these retellings shouldn't even exist. Typically retellings of Persephone's story just make their relationship look aspirational and make Hades look sympathetic while making Demeter at fault for everything just so that they can spin the story into being smutty and full of love. I think Fields of Asphodel is devoid of the most egregious examples of this but...it's Persephone. Did we really need to retell this particular story again?

I have to admit that I’d avoided AC since it was kicked from the forums—not necessarily for the drama, but because the fem!MC felt like an afterthought and there was no interesting male romance, or moments where my MC felt like the world recognised her as a woman. However, with the latest version of AC I decided to give it a go and romanced all the men I could. Guiren was actually a surprisingly fleshed out romance I liked! And there were plenty of characters who reacted to my MC as a woman—especially with her bovine-build—and she passed a lot of checks just for being hot. The OP mean guy was more interested in my MC to the point of offering a marriage alliance, Jack stopped being flustered after enough flirting options and instead called my MC a ***** lol, and I even managed to have a little rivalry with Sakura because my MC felt like a hot girl 😂

It’s honestly come a long way, and while I can’t compare it to a male!MC, it was genuinely fun.

Can’t say the same for DA or PoMA though. Those both should absolutely be male-locked.

  1. Having less than 100k words
  2. Not having achievements section
  3. Not having RO information in stats page
  4. Hearts choice except 2-3 titles
  5. If I dislike first page I generally dislike whole game
  6. RO which I like most of times is not available in that gender 🤡😂
  7. Not having proper epilogue
  8. Not having good romance

The only one I've seen truly pull it off while retaining updates and the plot progression is One Knight Stand, but that game will take a thousand years to finish all it's promised installments at the rate the author is going.
I'm on the one knight stand authors patreon and I'm actually pretty hopeful I'm pretty sure the reasons the updates were taking so long is because of computer and coding problems but things have been going pretty smooth now maybe im too optimistic though

Thissss! It shouldn't have existed in the first damn place, the whole story felt it fitted female option better. I am a dude and I played as a girl, because playing as a dude felt too damn weird in the story.

You think AC is bad with how low the romance is for female MC is , at least I could recommend it to my sister... I would never recommend POMA to her because POMA is far worse than AC. At least in, AC.... The author thought of female MC to some level but in Poma, zero, I mean zero romance option for female MC unless you are counting the prince and that isn't going anywhere.

Heavy on number 5 and 4, also not having a proper synopsis of what the game is about is also a red flag for me.

Out of curiousity, did the author remove fMC romance options from the game? I remember there being more, but it's been a looong time since I played POMA
