  • Art requires honesty. We're all busy. We all have health issues. We aren't all English native speakers. So? You want to be a writer, you write. If you don't believe in your story enough to stand by it on your own, then why should I believe you have anything worthwhile to say? An unwillingness to be vulnerable for the sake of your art is not a skill issue, it's indicative of your character.

While I appreciate her honesty in stating she uses AI outright, she still monetizes her Patreon contents which undoubtedly also made with AI. That's a big red flag for me.

Also I tried reading said IF, and I still can't differentiate the LIs lol like who's who, who said what, even the names escape me because the characters have zero personality. And the last time I felt this way was when I read Halls of Sorcery, lol. Shocking huh?

Huh, I swore I already replied the other day. Did I forget to press post 😭 ANYWAY
@luckz > says she's only sharing because she loves the story > monetizes it ... lol
Def a red flag. I'm sure she thinks she loves the story, and I think she doesn't love it enough to write it. There are people out here writing millions of words for their IFs, I'd rather give them my time
Bastard of Camelot could use a rewrite. Not to change the content, but to brush up on the prose so it's consistent throughout. As it is, there's a huge quality difference between early and late game. You can tell it's been written years ago, and author has improved much since then. Like. ‘“Training is hard,” he said sympathetically, and you agree wholeheartedly.’ That's an ugly ahh sentence 😭😭

Nah, you're not crazy. YMMV and all that! Averbs/adjectives just grind my gear. I do enjoy the game a lot. I just feel that the early chapters don't reflect the overall quality of the game. The later chapters are written better, and there's a noticable shift in style that makes the beginning rather rough in comparison. Maybe not a total rewrite, but some editing would be nice!

I see what you mean, maybe once the game is finished, they can go back and adjust certain parts.

And could be added the option to choose other name than this disgusting "Mordred"...
People are so creative. They will ask thingss like 'What would the ROs reaction be if MC covers themself in peanut butter to seduce them but then during *** they find out MC has allergic reactions to peanut and they go into cardiac arrest?', and the author would actually answer. girl what
This is niether here or there but — devastating lack of femboy ROs in IFs.
I don't know how ppl could make a blog for their game without a demo. I'm so prone to the illusion of accomplishment. If I do that, my dumb brain would think 'Yep, we're done here', and lose all motivation. Just talking about it is risky, 'cause the instant gratification from people acknowledging/engaging with my project can sabotage my process. I'd just be answering asks about planned features forever 😭
Dashingdon shutting down gives me flashback to when we used to host demos on dropbox until they no longer supported it. How time flies...
So Sylents uses AI (for his writing) right? He is chronically inconsitent, puts out ten of WIPs, lacks a recognizable writing style, make constant rewrites and unlikely 'mistakes' e.g. using wrong names, and misplacing an entire sentence. Seems obvious something is going on so I'm confused why nobody on cog forum points it out? Or they do, this is a known thing, and I'm just out of the loop?

Don't take my words as gospel, however. There may be an explanation for those unlikely mistakes, my evidence is circumstantial, and I might just be a huge prick. (Also worth noting the odd shifts between past and present tense...but honestly that's a very human mistake.)
Writing Asher (one of the LIs) all I can think about is the one Tumblr post that says 'and just when you think you've hit rock bottom, you want to f*ck a blond guy.'
I'm more inclined to use Twine Sugarcube because I'd have more freedom (+ I have personal beef with Jason and Mary at COG...but I digress.) Though since choicescript is p*ss easy to use that's what I've been writing in. I suppose I can always convert later.
Love and Leases was painful to read. Please, for the love of god, never say 'c*m rag' again.

@Foulwarden It's quite early in the game, when MC shows up at Eagle Crest for an interview. Not sure if it's new, I think not, but my brain would also erase that whole sentence from my memory too so I don't blame you for not noticing

My mind likes to erase things that are unpleasing, its just knows whats best for me ✨
Divorce Chatroom is short and effective. Competently made, entertaining, with good dialogues. I enjoyed the messy route.

As I get older I sound more and more like 'that one friend who doesn't like ANYTHING'... (and I'm not even that old.) I swear I enjoy plenty of things. Uh. I love my wife and daughter? Oh, SeekL was good, just finished it last night... Hm. Weeping Gods? Yeah. I like Weeping Gods. Uhhhh. More later.

+ Btw if you play noble MC, it's possible to have an early meet cute with Narmer in a library. That scene is hillarious. Sigh... darn Narmer and his cute head kiss that lured me under a false sense of security... 💔

    ...WHAT
Lol I guess I'll have to restart to see this meet cute then, I just can't get enough of Narmer though at the same time I'm also scared of him 🥲 I know he's capable of being gentle and loving but that specific scene just got me shook so bad it'll take me days to recover 🥲
I am currently doing Noble MC route but I'll try the Captain MC to see this scene ❤️

Wooo! Let me know if you need help finding the library scene :3
I like Sherlock Holmes: An Affair of the heart as much as the next guy, but good lord Doriana has been heavy-handed with the em dashes. I usually don't mind, but she uses them like every other paragraph now. It interrupts the flow somewhat when you read, because you're always dragging the last syllable out, and now it sounds like no one is able to finish a sentence in this game.

@Foulwarden Nah, it doesn't read as AI. I think it's just what happens when you don't have an editor. No one warns you may be overusing em dashes and it interrupts the flow. Plus, it's a demo. I'm sure changes will be made once the game goes through beta readers. I like Doriana's writing, but it can benefit from a fine-tooth comb going over it. ^^

@Parallax Yes, it may be the case that the dialogues don't always sound natural because it's a non-British author writing British characters. Alas, as I said, I can't judge the authenticity because British people just already sound 'theatrical' to me lol. I believe it's intentional, that she wants them to sound British and proper (YMMV if she succeeds.) She writes in British English, regardless.
