I also agree with this statement, I was big in this early covid and it was a great time to consume, however the point I find it that 1. People aren't making them as much anymore due to life getting in the way. 2. It's the same shite different title. 3. It feel like some aren't in to for the enjoyment but the profit they can get.
This is also because people are used to Interactive fiction or play it too much. The more you consume something, the less you get amazed by it.
I think its more than that. A lot of them don't really try to be original anymore, they just stick to the same formula. It does feel more like it's about money than actually trying to build a world or tell a story
It's true, even for me, there's just so many things, that I only find bits and pieces of time to write, though I do try to write and code every day. But also, it's not just that, but if you don't have monetary compensation for it, or something that will make it more than just some hobby, the lack of energy and motivation to do it consistently
is a factor as well.
Aside from that, the main problem is that the place has become too crowded, and now everyone wants to make it, thinking that they can, and just end up either failing, or giving people some bland, unoriginal story not worth much. And sure, while this may paint me as a dick, it's the truth. That's why you submit your written work to publishers, so they can go through it and see if they want to publish it or not. Some people make it, because of various reasons, while many others don't. But the problem with IFs, is that there is no overview phase, and everyone can just pump out content on their own, meaning you will get all the bad ones, that would have been ditched originally, alongside the good ones that are actually worth something.
And yeah, many are there only for profit, but I really can't blame them, for I truly do understand.
Oh, and on account for Jaded's comment, yeah, from what I've seen, and come to know while being in the space, is that most of the time, those wannabe writers have their fictional OCs, right. So now, through IFs, they can make them come to life in a way, and so they make a story that is just there for shits and giggles, while everything is kind of centred around their favourite OC. That's why most stories seem bland as ****, focusing solely on characters.
Now don't get me wrong, I
do think that one should focus on the characters as well, but if the story falls under the fantasy or any other such genre, world building and workings need to be adressed as well, to the best of ones ability.
