Maybe the MC feels stupid because of Niky’s writing. If he wasn’t lazy and actually made the MC feel like a real main character instead of a clown, we would already be much stronger. There is so much potential with the Dao system, but all he decides to give us is a palm strike, teleportation, and some flashy elemental attacks.

Niky should read a bunch of cultivator manhwa to improve his game, or even play Dao Ascension and Aura Clash to get some ideas from those authors. Their games are much better than Poma, even though they came out later. Their MCs are much smarter and stronger than Poma’s MC.
I agree with your point but DA is not better then PoMA lmao, it's aimless and direction-less and full of bloat and spelling mistakes, practically unreadable.

Yeah nah, i still think that poma is better than both da and ac.

Da feels like i'm reading a novel instead of playing an IF and i'm not sure how its possible that even with more than a million word count, there's absolutely nothing memorable about it.

As for ac, i haven't played it in like a year. the only thing good i remember and can say about it is that it felt like ac has an actual structure and cohession to both game and story as opposed to poma (especially when compared to poma as it exist now) . But thats pretty much it, i have nothing else good to say about it. And most of the negative stuff that i can say has already been said elsewhere by others. But i'll say this, I absolutely despise the xuanhuan genre in general. And ac is most definitely a xuanhuan. Whereas poma even in its current disheveled state still feels like i'm reading/playing a xianxia IF.

But DA doesn’t even have more than a million words — are you sure you didn’t confuse it with another game? And about Poma and AC, that’s simply a matter of personal preference. Personally, I think Poma doesn’t even show what’s most important in the genre for me: the protagonist’s growth. Many times I don’t even know how strong my character is because the story does a terrible job of showing it — and that’s not even mentioning that it doesn’t show what kind of training the protagonist does after getting his new body. They just give you Qi and everything at random, but the narrative shows nothing, so for me it’s much worse than AC. I even read DA and liked it more than Poma.

I seem to be misremembering things, either that or i got it mixed with some other game. Just goes to show how unmemorable and how unnoteworthy da is.

As for the ofher things you said. You're right it is a matter of preference. And i'll say this in favour of da. It felt like i was reading an actual xianxia, and thats exactly the problem. I want to play the game not read it.

You got it mixed up, because Poma is the one that has almost 1 million words — it has around 997k or something like that. DA has around 370k in the public version and about 400k - 450k in the Patreon version. And about playing Poma, honestly that’s my biggest problem with the game: the gameplay in Poma is just annoying and not fun, because like I said before, I don’t feel like my effort is being rewarded. So the gameplay is what ruins the experience for me the most. Honestly, if they removed the gameplay of managing stats and all that stuff, I wouldn’t mind at all — but that’s just personal preference And honestly, I feel that Poma is pretty short considering its word count. I guess everything is packed into the mechanics that keep changing all the time, and fights that have nothing to do with the plot, so I suppose our experiences and tastes are very different.

Yeah i agree with most of what you said here. I do believe that poma has an actually interesting story to tell but its shitty *** bloated inconsistent and needlesly complicated mechanics is effecting the story negatively and makes it hard for us to enjoy the game as a whole.

I don't agree with the public opinion of love or contempt for DA, for me it's just "Oh, it's fun to pass the time..."

But here...

Here you said what POMA really lacks the most as Xianxia. In fact, you couldn't be more right. It really impresses me that Nicky, as a fan of the genre, doesn't see such a problem. His irrational and misplaced fear/terror/despair towards the supposed "power fantasy" has eroded his critical sense.

It's less his fear and terror and moreso people just driving and wedging his story everywhere because they pay on Patreon, although you're not wrong, he does heavily dislike making this story a power fantasy for some reason despite the fact that it's literally one of the pillars of modern Xianxia, like trying to build a house without cement and bricks.

Like, this is the standard of people Nicky listens to...

If your only problem is with the stats management then you can already ignore that. It's what story mode is for.

Just recently replayed DA, and honestly it does feel like some MTL I would read as a teen. Still feels disjointed, but did get somewhat better, will give author props that it’s an actual Xianxia OP MC. My problem is there’s hardly any variables being saved, and it feels like choices do not matter. Also WHY IS MC STILL LIKE 10. It’s so cringe to me.

Now for AC, it’s probably my favorite MC out of the three, story I always go back and forth on, idk but feels like it’s missing something. It is a Xuanhuan, but I realized some of my favorite cultivation novels back then were too when I think about it. My friend is even making a Xuanhuan with Xianxia elements, basically has lots of races, but a cultivation system basically. Jack is a good rival, because I do not take him seriously. Sometimes I do have to suspend my belief to accept his random feats… combat is perfect stat checks, no bloat. Story is idk, good not great. I need to see more to be honest.

Now, maybe because it’s the first Poma will always be king, I just love it, hate Ruo, but love this game. The OG story was so great, it’s so convoluted now. Literally everyone is a cultivator now, so I’m scared for the future. Just want Wu Heir to feel like the MC. Show me what makes them special. Plus I’m here for the story at this point, all this reworking combat has been a negative for me. I’m biased towards it, but feels like Niki cares more about the Tangs than Wu Heir lol.

Nah Wu Heir is definitely going to be the Main Antagonists in Poma world lmao, I mean Ruo is the protagonist isn't it.

Wu Heir probably got his time to shine when its at the end of the book, giving Last Boss Vibes or something

The main reason people love Aura Clash so much is because it truly feels like a complete package.

Readers notice when an author invests effort into fleshing out the story’s universe, its characters, and the consequences of the protagonist’s choices. These elements make the experience enjoyable - whether it’s a clever callback, a touch of suspense, or the variety of paths, backgrounds, relationships, and interactions. All of these techniques help readers feel connected, and they enrich the overall experience.

The combinations and permutations available in the story, and how seamlessly they fit together, are remarkable. I haven’t come across something like this in a long time. The author also cleverly employs a technique common in bestselling books: the use of a long journey - filled with obstacles, leading toward a tournament.

Even Aura Clash incorporates menus and free roam, but compare that to Poma’s free roam system see who put more effort in it.

Now, while many people play Poma for its story, I wonder how much longer it can sustain reader interest. If the game ends at the Nascent Soul stage, I doubt the narrative will remain gripping. Poma has promising subplots, but many of them are abandoned, leaving the story stagnant and less engaging.

Readers often complain about Ruo and Mei glazing and about a capable yet plot‑neutered main character but,

My own criticism is that Poma’s story lacks deep substance to keep readers invested. A strong story should demand attention, preventing readers from zoning out or skimming. While Poma initially succeeds in this, after the “Danger Zone” arc the attention graph steadily declines 📉. Even a powerful fight with Chu Muchen doesn’t solve the bigger issue: the current plot simply isn’t interesting enough to hold engagement.

The author could potentially fix this by polishing and expanding the existing subplots rather than catering to Patreon demands. However, at this point, I remain doubtful.

Few subplots I remember demon queen, rebels who took over our clan property, cousin plot, finding out bar friend, ai romance plot good like it

At this point lol I even read our mc and father relationship improvement plot or estate management plot about how our mc made wu clan rich etc and powerful

Or make mc go on isolation meditation and make him face obstacles there for character growth as someone suggested here I don't care

What I am surprised is it feels weird when something remains unaddressed like when that time when you get trapped in a dream by tw friend and after escaping it it's never talked about in the story

Also it feels contradictory tbh and hilarious too that my mc on one side thinks every person on earth is pest and fuel to ascend and become god but on other hand gets his *** kicked by the likes of he gang and others

Maybe his time hasn't come yet but still another criticism that resonates with me is that medium frog technique manual bruh I am not saying make mc god but if my mc can complete a lost art of su de at least give readers choice between high and medium techniques with reasoning behind it like raising too much suspicion etc
