That was uncle tao and he more or less forced the mc to go because the townsfolk didn't even know their face, as for why the mc in particular because chao was banned of half the shops, tao would murder everyone and if it was a servant they would run away with the money.

What happened was the he clan somehow knew of the cure for aunty and bought them all while telling their traders not to sell to the Wu family and MC was sent because MC had no looks that would relate to the Wu family and also because MC wasn't yet introduced as the heir
