Wouldnt there be like a heavenly retribution or something if someone way stronger tries to kill someone way weaker? Im no Xianxia expert but this happens in Tale of Immortal if we kill someone like atleast 1-2 stages below us. Sect members also say the same that they cant fight someone 2 stages below them in the sect tournement else they will face the punishment of the heavens. Yichen clearly wants MC to help to Ruo. If we say no, He literaly kills us regardless of how respectful we are. Even if its empty words, i dont think Yichen really wants MC to be against them. He's not stupid. The reincarnation of a god is no joke in the long run. MC as an ally is the only option compared to MC as an enemy or MC as a neutral. Kind of like nuclear deterrent if you ask me. Yichen's only concerned about strength again. If man put actual effort in strengthening his clan, then he wouldnt need to be this desperate.

Conveniently, this only seems to apply to Ruo, considering that Lady Butterfly mentions she can’t kill Ruo directly because the heavens would punish her or something like that, right? Or maybe this rule doesn’t apply to the inhabitants of Poma among themselves? That’s another thing that hasn’t been made clear.
Yes, it probably only applies to Ruo, at such a high level (but in reality it's just his plot armour). I mean, it probably applies to everyone as bad karma, but not at the level of "kill someone weaker and die soon after". As for the MC, I'm betting that whoever kills him will even gain social credit.
Honestly, Ruo attacking us the moment he found out made sense. I just hated everything else about that scene.

I didn't mean that you'll get killed. I meant in the sense that you'll be subject to kind of like a judgement from the heavens. You'll be permanently crippled a bit but nothing serious. Like the time MC is hit by a lightning for forcing his void art expertise during the rebel situation.
