He probably has plans to write her branch in time. He just wants her arc to feel whole so he's making her gender selectable for the female Wu heirs and adding more events after expo and before the tourney. If he does this for the next update, then Mei, Ai and Tigress would have relatively good amount of content. It's a start.

If you ask me, if he doesn't want to write RO content, then don't do it. I bet the discord is pressuring him. Ai had a good arc, Mei I haven't played yet but you guys clearly like it. It feels like he actually planned out their romance arcs compared to say Xiwen or Caihong.

You want to know how you can tell this was not Niki idea? He still uses singular pronoun… like he clearly still picture Ruo as a male, and Tigress as a female. Gender selectable, but used her lol. His heart isn’t in it, Ruo he had to because laws, but stop forcing him to do these things smh.

I mean if he's going to make Tigress and have them as a separate route to the Tourney then he kinda has to make it accessible to male and female characters. But like also remember this is still a WIP a lot of stuff can and will change.

He doesn't have to make it accessible.
There isn't any rule like that.
Author should write what is best for story instead of thinking about accessibility to bring best out of story.
Specially for tingress like charcter.it changes whole character if you make her male. It's just waste of time.

The majority of the game isn't available to female characters, anyone (like myself) still playing instead of dropping when they realize it panders to the discord the way Anon panders to 4channers and female MCs are an afterthought probably don't care.

Nicki really needs to make up his mind and gender lock POMA already but then he wouldn't be able to write his slow burn enemies to friends to lovers arc with Ruo who's obviously supposed to be male in the story.

I'd say that though i disagree with it in general and i'm certainly no expert on the matter. but poma should have been a male gender lock game for no other reason than niki's own inexperience in writting from a female prespective of a xianxia setting. Niki trying to pander to discord and patreon by making gender changeable ro will probably result in subpar writting for the ro routes. he will struggle trying to write a more gender neutral set dialogues and flavour texts for both mc and ro's in their routes. For the simple reason that niki's writting of the story has the feel of it being written for a male xianxia protag. And him trying to write a femmc into the story without actually changing dialogues and other flavour texts has so far in my opinion has been underwhelming to say the least

On a sidenote i wouldn't exactly say that ruo's romance is a slowburn. At it's current state and rate of development i'd say it's close to non-existent

I think that would be better and he can make poma more realistic and better with that
There could be huge improvement in quality and in speed of updates

I dont think Ruo romance is gonna start until you beat her. Even her grandfather think she needs to be knocked down a peg lol
