Nicky is, at least in my view, terrible at creating and describing settings. I swear, in Aura Clash I can sort of visualise each location where a scene takes place (and, unlike POMA, I don’t play it often), because Anon does a phenomenal job there. But with POMA, most of the time I’m not even sure where the MC is; in the free-for-all, for example, I’m not sure if it’s set in a town, a forest, an open field or a combination of these; I don’t know if the Arena is colosseum-style, if it’s round, if it’s square, if it’s a gigantic place or if it’s only a few dozen metres across; I don’t know what the MC’s house is like; I’m not even sure what the sect itself looks like, all I know is that it’s at the top of one or more peaks. Not to say that Nicky didn’t describe it at all, just that if he did, it’s completely forgettable. All Niki said is that poma MAs dont have one shot moves to level cities right? That they could level a hill at best or something like that.
Tbh when i read the Yichen flashback when he kills all the dragons, i imagined it as him going sukuna furnace on the entirety of the dragon 'city'. Like completely vaporizing a big radius around him. One shot move essentially. I imagine most shangtains dont have a skill set that has a highly destructive aoe move.
Still, destructive fights are very entertaining and adds atmopshere. I think its part of the reason why a lot of poma fights are so bland because there's simply no enviroinment. Like most fights are in arenas or desolate areas. In AC, two of the biggest fights we have are on an island with forest, mountains, volcanic mountains and a shoreline with a big castle, houses where the scope of the MC's and other powerful characters powers can be seen. Niki could have done this bit during the free for all but we barely damage any property. The only things getting destroyed are flesh and bones.
