Rewrite: Remnants of The Past (Act 1)

A/N: The rewrites are finally here! Since the start of the year, I’ve been slowly rewriting the entire Act to improve the writing overall and tweak a few scenes. With the end of Act 2 coming so soon, I powered through and finally finished it!

There are no major changes to the main story. This has been more of a massive edit than full rewrite. The first half, especially, has been edited the most.

Features:

- Improved writing in general.
- Adjusted the atmosphere and certain details to better fit a medieval setting, since before it could get a bit confusing in some scenes.
- Toned down the swearing, especially for the MC. I got feedback saying it felt a bit too much, and after revisiting it, I agreed. I also replaced some words with ones more fitting for the setting.
- Added new dialogue options.
- Added new scenes.
- Added new variables for MC's gender and pronouns to clean up the code. Before it was made with if statements.
- Tweaked some existing variables and scenes.
- Updated the codex and added an entry for the MC.
- In MC's codex entry, there are also some notes written by the MC about their love interest if they have it.

Some variables have already been added to Act 2 to avoid save issues, but there’s still a chance a few might not display properly. Because of that, I recommend replaying Act 1 even if you've already finished it just to make sure everything imports smoothly into Act 2.

For those playing on mobile, I still can't find a solution for the audio on the APK. I believe it has something to do with the files being too heavy, but I can't compress them enough for the audio to work properly. I'll keep trying to find a solution, but until then I'm afraid the APK will continue without background music.

New IF: Font Lay
(from the author of Neon Dreams)

Summary:

You play as a private investigator, trying to find the two missing teens, in a small, seemingly unknown, town of Font Lay, Canada, located right next to the ocean, in the beautiful region of British Columbia.

The year is 2000, and you think that this will be a job like any other, but, things take a turn from the very start. From strange people, to strange rules, stepping into Font Lay feels like stepping into a whole different world; one where the natural laws don’t really exist, and supernatural things are running rampant. If one is to be inclined to believe in such things, that is.

Uncover secrets, figure out what happened to the teens, and of course, do try to stay alive. Or don’t. Death is a finicky thing, in this strange town.

And lastly, we wish you a happy stay at Font Lay!

Features:

- Play as male, female or non-binary.
- Choose how your MC functions, and does their job.
- Almost every choice counts, and effects the story.
- Solve a mystery of the town, and the missing teens.
- Romance one of the three RO’s, or don’t.

COG Demos

Tumblr

It's short but in 26k the author perfectly captures the visceral feelings of a woman surviving an attempted rape as well as the guilt that results from killing someone as a self-defense. The premise of using the beauty and the beast as being the same person and using the folkloric werewolf lore as a euphemism as a rape survivor is a novel touch since it's rarely used nowadays in games. Due to the heavy themes in this game, I recommend this only for mature audiences. Here's to hoping this will actually get finished.

The Epsilon Vanguard

Summary:

Evil can never truly be defeated. Life is simply a cycle that either reduces it’s power or increases it’s influence. We get to choose how much good we bring to the world or how much evil we contribute.

War has buried its teeth into the Crescent Continent, dividing countries and families alike. The Order wishes to forge a new world from the ashes of the old, serving a dark entity known only as Blight. Fighting against them is the Allied Ministry, who serve Bright, a being of light. As factions of mages, engineers, and soldiers split to these sides, a bloody conflict drags on.

In book one of THE EPSILON VANGUARD you play a new type of soldier forged through a blend of technology, biology, and magic. Guide them through the frontlines of a world divided into a large-scale war. Choose how your Vanguard develops. Will it learn the intricacies of emotions and become more human, or lean into its machine origins and become a ruthless weapon of destruction? How will you contribute to the world as it descends into chaos?

• Play as male, female, or non-binary; straight, gay, or bisexual
• Choose the genders of your squad mates and love interests
• Fight in a war that contains elements of medieval and trench fantasy warfare
• Pick a combat role that changes what responsibilities you’ll have in situations
• Watch your personality develop through a range of personality traits
• Approach problems from a variety of angles using athletics, technology, influence, biology, and strategy
• Discover the secrets of your origin
• Develop creative hobbies like baking, gardening, drawing, writing, and music
• Assist your squad in surviving a war torn fantasy landscape, treasuring the moments of calm that come in the midst of thrilling excitement

CW: blood, death, violence, language

It's promising so far.

There's a new game in COG demos called the Dark Secret of the Elites.

I played it thinking it's got a secret society who actually controls the 1% and of course who doesn't want rich man simulator. Nope turns out it's just the government controlling the elite.

It might get better it might not. But hearing a character tell my MC to vote for a presidential candidate after blackmailing them is stupid. No one cares who a billionaire votes for unless they're half a celebrity and MC is a shipping line CEO 😭😭😭 so yeah I don't recommend the game.
