Rewrite: The Thousand of Us: A New World
A/N: The entire game has been rebooted to give a more cinematic experience. The game still has its spine in the premise and all. But you should go into this game expecting a completely new experience. The world fills different, the systems are tweaked, there are brand new mysteries to uncover, and new competent mc build you take control of... and see the world through their eyes.
As excited as I was to share all I've been working on with you guys, I didn't really plan on releasing it yet. My plan was to carry on as I was, until I was done with the entire first act. However, that plan ended up clashing with something else. When I went on this journey to rewrite and update the game, I imposed a personal deadline where I said I'll be making a release on or before the 5th of September. And it didn't matter how far I've gone.
Thankfully, even if I didn't reach my goal of completing the first act. I went quite far in the story, and was able to get a huge chunk of the first act into this update. Huge enough to contain the prologue along with a couple arcs, and take a couple hours of playtime before reaching a game end.
Re-introduction:
Summary:
Your story begins with what most believed to be the end of the world. A rogue planet roughly the size of Australia appeared without warning in Earth's inner solar system, moving toward the planet with no means of stopping it. Experts called it a hundred percent extinction-level event. Governments had no answer. And the world spent its final days saying goodbye.
Then, five hours before impact, it shattered. Silently, in a burst of light, without explanation.
The world called it a miracle. But, it wasn't the end as people thought. It was rather the beginning of one.
Whatever the rogue planet released when it broke apart moved through every living thing on Earth. A wave of genetic mutation that killed almost the entire human population and put everything else into a deep, simultaneous hibernation lasting a full year. When the world woke up, roughly a thousand humans remained—all of them under eighteen at the time of the disaster, all of them changed, and none of them in the world they remembered. The animals had changed. The environment had changed. And every surviving thing on the planet had woken up alongside them.
You are one of the thousand.
The Thousand Of Us: A New World is a post-apocalyptic interactive fiction about survival and identity. You don't build your character's background from nothing—you step into someone shaped by a life before the disaster, with people they love, things they're afraid of, and unfinished business the apocalypse didn't erase. Every choice you make from that point forward determines who that person becomes.
Features:
-
Play as Male, Female, or Non-binary — fully customize your appearance and name.
-
A protagonist with a foundation — rather than selecting a personality from a list, you begin as someone already formed by their past. Who they become is shaped entirely by the choices you make going forward.
-
Choose your ability from a wide range of powers: enhanced intellect, necromancy, telepathy, pocket dimensions, elemental control, rapid regeneration, and more — each offering a genuinely different path through the story.
-
A living world with real stakes — mutated creatures, hostile environments, and other survivors who may see you as an ally, a threat, or an opportunity. Death is a real possibility, and nearly every character in the game can be lost depending on your choices.
-
A personality system built on consequence — your choices accumulate and shape who your character is across three axes: how they think, how they connect, and what they hold onto when the world pushes back.
-
Explore with almost endless possibilities — This IF is a passion project built to be one of the most branched interactive fiction games ever written, with each power path offering a distinct route through the story, some offering several.
- Play optional side stories and step into the perspective of other characters, making choices that ripple back into the main story.
- Mild gore and optional explicit scenes with fade-to-black alternatives.
Romantic Interests:
- Nearly every major character can become a romantic interest depending on your choices and how your relationship with them develops. More than ten are already confirmed.
- Romance male or female characters regardless of your own gender.
- Polyamory routes are available.
- All relationships develop on their own terms — your choices shape their lives in ways that extend well beyond your own story.
