Stories that left you disappointed for a reason

eh. a lotta WiPs are big because they're just mood boards. A couple of chapters and answer some asks, people get hooked on what they dream is gonna happen. Broken Fable was all about what background was stronger, what would happen if X and Y fought. Infamous/Wayhaven it's about ROs and made up interactions that haven't even happened.

More chapters come out. It's less and less like the idea you had in your head. People lose interest.

Except with series, they get to avoid that. People get to dream about the next two books now
I don’t even know what’s worse, getting your hopes up for an IF only for it to turn out completely different from what you expected, or getting your hopes up for one that never actually happens.
One of my biggest frustrations with IF authors, besides the countless others, is when they come up with a cool idea, make a tumblr for it, hype up readers saying the next update will have this and that, and then they just disappear.

I swear, the first one (of many) that managed to seriously frustrate me a few months ago was the author of Debt of Deception. I actually liked the vibe, and I personally love IFs where you get to take care of kids.
I was checking her tumblr every day, and back in April she made a poll asking if we wanted half of the first chapter that month or if we preferred to wait until the next one for a full chapter. That’s when I saw the red flag. Polls about updates are basically a death sentence at this point.

Then May came, the month she supposedly would post the update, and of course, there wasn’t even a trace of it. But I was patient. I decided to wait until the end of the month, hoping maybe she’d post it by then.
The conclusion? Her last post was on May 29th, and she’s been gone ever since 🤡

And despite the frustration, I don’t usually go complain to the authors. I just get frustrated silently and move on. But there are other readers who don’t, who will go and complain, and I don’t think they’re wrong. After all, if you say you’re going to post an update, build up expectations in your readers, and then don’t do it, it’s obvious people are going to call you out for it.

But there are authors who still get mad when you call them out for something they themselves said they were going to do. The ones with Patreon? Don’t even mention them, they’re even worse. After all, how come you’re asking for something you’re literally paying to have? That’s unacceptable!

If they at least made a post saying they wouldn’t be posting an update, or that they lost interest in the IF, or anything like that, I’d even cut them some slack. But instead, they just disappear. And the ones with Patreon vanish too, but still keep draining money from the subscriptions.

Petition to make a list:
"Is it a WIP or is it just a Mood Board"

Would save everyone a lot of heartache

Got to give it to the author, it’s truly living up to its name, Debt of Deception indeed.

Thomas Bell, Leaker Extraordinaire

A former member of CoM, he used to be a regular member just like everyone else before deciding he'd want to start leaking for the benefit of everyone here. He did so, but not before also getting into hot waters with CoM Staff due to... Hmmm, let's just call it "political differences" in terms of speech, but that is neither here nor there.

He is permanently banned from CoM, but he sporadically pops in from time to time. But overall, I am his friend and leaking partner, so his overall presence remains felt in CoM through our 30 leaked patreons.

Governor Newsom? What are you doing on a pirate site?? Aren't you supposed to be governing California??? Or are you just on break from your podcast????

Regardless, I do feel the need to ask...

You claim to not care about ThomasBell and yet.

All your posts are related to him...

Could this be an obsession? Or perhaps you just have a slight crush on Tommothy?? If so, I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but he doesn't swing that way. Nor will he be voting for you.

You are entitled to dislike ThomasBell, whether due to envy or his personality; many on here do, but claiming not to give a **** and proceeding to do a 180° just reeks of hypocrisy.

Now, to remain on topic, I haven't really played any of the new IF titles that have come out. The last two that I have played were Games of the Monarch's Eye and Spire, Surge & Sea. Both carried the honour of having an interesting premise out of the recent batch of released dull-sounding CoG games... Alas, the winds of intrigue ended at the front door.

Games of the Monarch's Eye, while having some interesting world-building and lore. It was so imaginably boring, I physically could not finish it. As a bonus, the only interesting RO was the Monarch herself, but even that left a lot to be desired.

Spire, Surge & Sea, on the other hand, I managed to finish through force of will alone. A complete utter shame due to its premise being fantastic. Ocean world? Filled with Monsters?? Your Island Fortress is the only bastion of Humanity after the dark ages??? Sign me the f u c k up! Except, Well... Between the originally cheating RO, MC being completely worthless and a buggy ending. I wished I had dropped this IF instead of being stubborn...
Well said.Thomas is one of my oldest friends. He knows we have his back no matter what. This guy suddenly started talking crap only after I posted those screenshots on ur profile feed. Its like "pick me pick me talk about me.I will have my views heard whether anyone wants to hear them or not.And I'm going to blow them way out of proportion like a big hot air balloon." Dude why the sudden desperation for attention?

I went through my following list on Tumblr and some of the ones I really like haven't in a year the one I was looking forward to was OFNA, Viper & Dove (never even came out with a demo) the same with Evermount. People really do love just getting attention
