Stories that left you disappointed for a reason

Okay i just checked out Dawn of Heroes cuz i all of a sudden got a superhero itch. Wtf is even going on? Why does the author feels the need to unironically describe every single action taken by every single character poetically? Say a character farts, then the author would describe it as "He gritted his teeth as gas escapes the narrow pathway of his intestine like air escaping a released balloon." seriously wtf. Also, the characters and the MC are one dimensional and their interactions are so corny. The pacing is so random and the plot points seem so forced. It doesnt flow naturally. I was excited when i was customizing MC's powers but MC doesnt even use them properly. Even if your stats are way better than other heroes, you at times just watch things happen like a moron as the other heroes save the day. Still i forced myself to finish 7 chapters so far and i still havent felt pulled in. Idk how many more chs are left and i doubt its going to get better now, but ill finish the WIP anyway. I noticed that the IF releases in April, maybe the author rewrote a large part of it? I really like the power system they implemented but everything surrounding it is just not it.
Heh it gets better. (Better as in you are a side character to the author's very cool and edgy OC)

Has anyone read the fame game? I thought i was reading an IF? Why is there walls of text with the occasional crumbs of nothing choices? The prologue is so long too. The MC is the only teenager in the story apparently cuz every other support 'teenager' character are more socially adept, gives MC life advices despite being the same age without experiencing the MC's struggles, have a spine and overall more mature too. Its like you're the only 13 year old in a school of 20 year olds. The one who specialises in Guitar apparently knows more about Vocals than the MC who specialises in it and being a prodigy at that. It honestly looks like its written for those 'give me suffering and suffering only' readers. And hear this, the MC's oldest friends bully them using their intolerance for strawberry. And what does the MC do? take it like a little ***** and go right back to being best friends with them. The MC automatically 'likes' a certain characater despite us controlling MC. Its just soo infuriating to read that i had to come here to vent.

Too true! Your complaints are so valid. I was also disappointed by how spineless and forgiving the MC was even if you try to give them more hostile choices, especially since I really wanted to like the game because it's so long. But I feel like that's its downfall too since there’s hundreds of pages of text, sure, but they’re all about an MC that is basically fleshed out. And like you said, the choices mean very little because the author has a vision for your character and you will follow it.

Not to mention, I could barely get past all the bizarre over descriptions for rhythm and sound. It felt like I was trapped in the mind of a schizophrenic yoga instructor that made their vacation to the Himalaya's their entire personality, because my MC kept seeing and hearing sounds that weren't there and brought everything back to music and dancing all the time. She couldn't even hold a conversation for two seconds without thinking about it. No wonder Cece tried to kill her off with a strawberry lmao

I'll not lie, it was funny and cute at the beginning when the characters were like 6 but they still talk like that even after they hit 10? I swear I haven't seen a 10 year old talk anything remotely like that. It carried on till the academy auditions where they were 12 and after that they suddenly started talking like normal kids with the occasional schizophrenic episodes.

Everytime I read the MCs inner monologue I get so pissed off. They were so smart and witty before the academy but became a ***** after joining it? I swear when I first read the scenes of Jett and Alex, my mind immediately went "this is definitely the authors OC". I hate the way the author writes "oooh he's soo cool and intriguing and mysterious and mature". What a joke. I even came to hate Ethel cuz she acts like MCs knight in shining armour and the MC goes wide twinkling eyed at that. Only a specific type of audience will enjoy the WIP, the kind that enjoys crown of ashes and flames I reckon.

If we're talking novels cosplaying IFs, I'd also like to recommend Vapolis. It had a really good premise, and honestly I would be fine with it, if it was just a regular book. But no, supposedly it is an IF, and that is only due to some small choices every 50 pages or so, which amount to nothing really. Story will take you where it wants to take you, and you won't have any say in anything of importance. Don't know about the updates for it, but was very disappointed when I first discovered it, mainly because it was interesting and had good characters, but alas.

omg vapolis. i gave that story so many chances but the MC just got annoying to me. in a very unique way tho I'll give it that, mcs usually annoy me by being too nice but this one annoyed me by being so damn snarky all the time. literally why even have personality options. can't play a stoic character because we just GOTTA get a fiftieth sarcastic joke in this page.

and i get that the author is trying to go for a Blade Runner aesthetic but they're so bad at conveying it in the text. every two seconds the mc thinks "ooh this city is rotten and will chew you up and spit you out" over and over WE GET IT. mc you lived there your whole life and YOU'RE supposedly the one doing the chewing and spitting man. you're not batman bro you're a contract killer

Can one author please have a Slavic main cast member/RO/LI that isn't overly sexualized and part of the bad boy archetype? It's actually disgusting to see this as a trend. Is this a follow up to those questionable mafia romance books with Russian male leads? And please, I understand artistic intent but do all of them have to be named stereotypical names like Alexei, Dmitri, and Ilya?! What started as me getting excited to see those characters when reading the cast introductions slowly turned into me rolling my eyes and getting put off from the author's writing. This pattern of representation is unsettling.

This!:ROFLMAO: Like, I get hating on a place, but if MC's thoughts are exclusively that... So yeah, it did not meet my expectations for it, though a solid rewrite could fix it I'd say. Or a conversion to a novel

if they wanted stereotypical they should have went for Ivan/Vanya
and made him kinda dumb but lucky lol
What about Igor the scientist or something?:ROFLMAO: Or Boris, and we can't forget Viktor. I mean, unless a person from that region isn't writing, and instead the writer lives anywhere but there, they'll use stereotypes I'm afraid😔

There's really no excuse considering how many of these authors go on about sensitivity and ask readers for input. You'd think if they have that in mind they'd look up what not to do when writing characters from cultures they don't know of. It seems to me this is a common thing authors are attracted to and therefore not seeing any issue with it or even noticing how other authors are creating similar characters.

Oh, no, you got it wrong. They are all about being progressive, and woke, and comfortable, but only about thing that they deem so. Look at them the way you'd look at Netflix.
Netflix making a show about vikings, and a ****ing viking king, known to be a ruthless, fierce lad, but what do we have here? Turns out, if you ask Netflix, that that guy is a black woman now:)
Like, I don't give two ****s about race or anything, but make it make sense. Though, the reason why I gave this example, is just to illustrate how they think, since they fall under the same category as those folks at Netflix. That's my deduction though, so I may be wrong, but I doubt it.
Though, with enough people speaking out about it, I think writers can be swayed to our side on that. I mean, just look at how much care they take when mentioning anyone coming from Africa or some South American place. Would it be so hard for them to give that courtesy to slavic people and nations?

I swear, a part of me dies every time I see another post from an author announcing a new IF while their main one hasn’t even made it past the prologue yet.
And it’s always the same excuse, like they’ll work on it whenever they get stuck on the main IF or when they need a “break” from it.
At that point, if they already need a break from a story that’s still in the prologue, I just know there aren’t many expectations for the future of either project.

This is the curse of C.C Hill. She throws out absolute banger story ideas with 2-3 chapters and actual plot points, and then proceeds to dump them after a few months and post the world’s most linear and cringe smut instead.

Or that one author of Simping Jade Beauties who has like seven hundred different prologues and keeps posting more.

Controversial maybe but i think she should stop trying to write anything that isnt smut one shots. cant stand her characters for longer than one or two chapters. imo shes not good at romance, but shes good at p*rn, and clearly enjoys writing it. p*rn is always a bit cringe so its fine, but a whole novel being cringe is unbearable

I think maybe you have this perspective because youre closer to the slavic culture and notice the mistakes. i assure you, being south american makes 75% of the latino characters in IFs sooo embarrasing to read. the spanish is always really bad, how hard is it to get a beta tester? im sure thats the case with africans as well. the common theme is most of these writers are from the US and do zero research

Not even sure why she's going for the "slice of life" at this point. It's obvious that she means slice of ****, and I think everyone knows this
