You're so right! We should strive to change ourselves to adapt to harmful environments rather than try to make the environments better. Why try to reduce gun crime when you have the money to buy a bullet proof vest instead? Clearly everyone else will be able to do the same and we can keep the same status quo for ourselves and our children rather than trying to actually make their lives better.
making the environment better usually takes the combined efforts of a non-insignificant amount of people, and people irl are harder to work with; more often than not. so yes, buy a bulletproof vest by all means, considering the alternative would be to believe in the moral and ethical values of strangers who may or may not practice the virtues of self-restraint and non-violence as you do. or, live in a country that isn't america, iono.

quite bold of you assume you'll live long enough to worry about anyone's children with a mantra like that and crazy how you equated gun violence with a few mean words on the internet that you can literally choose not to see btw.

It's really weird to me how people seem to see social critique of issues as some kind of sign of obsession. Someone raises awareness and criticizes a subsection of a community that is doing bad things? They personally need to grow a thicker skin and stop caring. Someone criticizes that take? They aren't gonna live very long for equating it with gun violence by doing the time-tested thing everyone does to arguments of isolating and extrapolating out their logic. It's interesting to me how quickly it always devolves into personal attacks and insinuations of anyone daring to criticize something. Socially you have to recognize at the very least that this being the default response only further enables that bad behavior that everyone agrees is bad. And I've never really been one to take the easy way out and condemn others to suffer if I can help it by trying to address the root cause of an issue. But I don't wanna start an argument and get mods mad at me.
