Unfortunately, I haven't been successful so far. If anyone managed to make it run on your phone, please teach me your ways...!

I actually managed to find the problem by reading the log of the game after trying to run it on joyplay on the correct plugin/app version (game is made on 8.1.3.x)!
It seems that the current version of Joiplay 8.1.x is not able to unpack a series of files required for the game to run. That's why it crashes to a black screen. Specifically, it kept whining on the log file about "ff8.rpyc". I suspect is due to the game (maybe) being built on a nightly build, or any version sligltly above what is supported by the app on 8.1.x. Joiplay might not be correctly coded to extract all the correct files from \game\archive.rpa if the version of the game engine is newer than the one supported by version of the plugin, so he can't index/"see" all files and folders required to make the game run correctly. He thinks the files are missing, and closes the game.
So it's not gonna run straight out of the box... BUT, you can give Joiplay a little help and extract the files on your PC yourself , then get it running on Joyplay after that.
What you need is an RPA Extractor. I've used one made by iwanPlays, on itch. If you Google, you will find it. It's free.
Then, just go to the game's \game\ folder using a PC (I borrowed one for a few minutes to puzzle this out). Put rpaExtract.exe inside the folder. Drag archive.rpa ONTO rpaExtract.exe and it will do the magic on it's own. Voilá. Now, copy all the game's files onto your phone and run it normally with Joiplay.
Also, I've ran the game on the PC once, just to make sure all dependencies were okay.
Confirmed to be working on my very old phone, on Joiplay 1.20.611, Renpy Plugin 8.1.3 for Joiplay v1.00.50. it even recognises the game's icon automatically now, it didn't before.
Hopefully this will be a fix to many of the renpy games that weren't running correctly on joiplay due to it not unpacking all files. Try a few of yours, see if if it works. It should.
