I think it depends on how strong Wu Chao can become in a short period of time, since Nicky has apparently already said that Prime Yichen was only equal to an average Core Formation.
Chao would be definitely better than Average core formation since he is called kind of genius. Even if at this age he become shangtian it is still record.

Yes. Shangtian Chao, even if he'd be one of the strongest Shangtian, might not be able to beat Yichen since Yichen is powerful beyond what a Shangtian would normally could be, but Golden Core Formation is Shangtian++. I don't know if it'd be no-diff, low-diff, or high-diff, but he'd win.
Yichen is powerful, but he did not create a near-Transcendental art when he was a Houtian like pops did. Chao definitely has the higher battle IQ (It's just a shame it isn't passed down to his descendant since MC is decidedly lacking in that department LMAO), so in a battle of near or equal power, he'd come out on top.

Even if we turn chao into a core formation, id still have yichen above him due to the dao sprout and the ancestral blood droplet those things have made yichen the strongest and taking away the droplet the arts yichen have would outclass whatever chao could get in that time
The only reason chao was able to make the arts was due to the gate event he won, he says so in the qna and battle iq still goes to yichen he is much older than chao and has fought in more battles than him and 'shockingly' killed more shangtians than him
Chao wouldn't win because the heavens Niki wouldn't want him to because that means not glazing the Tangs for existing.
