Stories that left you disappointed for a reason

I know of exactly one (just the one!) IF that has actually successfully done a rewrite/rework without going into limbo (I believe as of Sept. the rewrite, which started around end of May, has gotten mostly up to par with the old version too); and that is Bride of Shadows which is not going to be everybody's cup of tea (nsfw, dark romance, fem!locked mc, and a huge pregnancy + religion focus) but is a good example of a writer actually sitting down and locking in to write the story they wanted to write even if they had to redo it a time or two in the process. Like a lot, a lot, of these IF writers could learn a thing or two about discipline from this lady.

But it's kinda sad that a relatively newer IF is the only example I can think of off the top of my head to actually do this successfully (oh actually Arcadie: Second Born probably fits too but that was more an engine switch than a straight up rewrite/rework).
It might be a little too early to celebrate but The Sword of Rhivenia rework seems to be going pretty good

Thomas Bell, Leaker Extraordinaire

A former member of CoM, he used to be a regular member just like everyone else before deciding he'd want to start leaking for the benefit of everyone here. He did so, but not before also getting into hot waters with CoM Staff due to... Hmmm, let's just call it "political differences" in terms of speech, but that is neither here nor there.

He is permanently banned from CoM, but he sporadically pops in from time to time. But overall, I am his friend and leaking partner, so his overall presence remains felt in CoM through our 30 leaked patreons.

Governor Newsom? What are you doing on a pirate site?? Aren't you supposed to be governing California??? Or are you just on break from your podcast????

Regardless, I do feel the need to ask...

You claim to not care about ThomasBell and yet.

All your posts are related to him...

Could this be an obsession? Or perhaps you just have a slight crush on Tommothy?? If so, I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but he doesn't swing that way. Nor will he be voting for you.

You are entitled to dislike ThomasBell, whether due to envy or his personality; many on here do, but claiming not to give a **** and proceeding to do a 180° just reeks of hypocrisy.

Now, to remain on topic, I haven't really played any of the new IF titles that have come out. The last two that I have played were Games of the Monarch's Eye and Spire, Surge & Sea. Both carried the honour of having an interesting premise out of the recent batch of released dull-sounding CoG games... Alas, the winds of intrigue ended at the front door.

Games of the Monarch's Eye, while having some interesting world-building and lore. It was so imaginably boring, I physically could not finish it. As a bonus, the only interesting RO was the Monarch herself, but even that left a lot to be desired.

Spire, Surge & Sea, on the other hand, I managed to finish through force of will alone. A complete utter shame due to its premise being fantastic. Ocean world? Filled with Monsters?? Your Island Fortress is the only bastion of Humanity after the dark ages??? Sign me the f u c k up! Except, Well... Between the originally cheating RO, MC being completely worthless and a buggy ending. I wished I had dropped this IF instead of being stubborn...

Oh, that is right! They are doing that but I feel like it's a bit different when it's a rewrite of a game already published xD. They've at least already proven they can finish something whereas the majority of non-published rewrites just disappear. That shadow one (that got panned pretty heavily iirc - I don't remember the name atm) is also doing a post-publication rewrite but I haven't been keeping abreast of it so dunno if that one will also fall under the successful rewrite banner or not.

Same!!! I love toxic relationships in fiction, but it took a lot of disappointments for me to realize the Dark Romance trend is not for me. I ****ing hate those types of LIs that just abuse you and you can do nothing about it. Let the MC be toxic too! What happened to choosing your own adventure? Some authors are just making self-insert Wattpad books and calling them "IFs" nowadays (looking at locria-writes).
I've read one from a Tumblr blog where we can be toxic partner and corrupting an RO, but I forgot the name of the IF.

The premise is you killed your Best Friend abusive partner, and now that you taste the thrill of killing, you can't stop anymore. One of the RO is the first victim best friend, an innocent man. I believe we can slowly manipulate and corrupting him throughout the story, at least that's what the author promised, but I haven't seen it for sometimes.

Either I forgot to follow the blog, or it got deleted. Perhaps somebody here knows the IF I'm talking about?

I don't even want toxic any more, I just want to play an MC who isn't the equivalent of a porcelain doll with no brains. Like, let the MC have actually conflicting emotions, let them fight back and say no. It's so frustrating, I'm considering learning choice script.
I say go for it, mate. Maybe one day you can see your story being leaked here too🤣👍1000377802.jpg

I was excited about it. But I suspect this was one of those "writers" who published demo and then disappeared forever.

I started rereading the Tale of Crowns and I don't remember MC being such a clueless idiot who keeps asking questions with a pikachu face, even about things that you could put two and two together yourself. The stats say that MC uses their intellect, but I have the impression that they have a brain the size of a pea! For someone who has spent their entire life moving around and hiding effectively, at 25 they should be more smart and assertive. The author clearly likes to force mc into the role of an unaware, helpless child who will now be babysat by ROs instead of their parents. Maybe that will change in later chapters? I hope so.

Also what's up with "I'm [name] and I go by [she/he]"? Does everyone in this world wear covering clothes or have gender neutral features? xD What nonsense.

I saw The Abyssal author, reblogged Gods and Villains author return… these dudes are not serious… returned with short stories…. I thought the update was almost finished???? Like 2 months ago lol. Now that’s an author that is in it for the money these two are the same.
Ha, no wonder they support each other. And this plague spreads, setting an example and encouraging newcomers.

They try to justify it with saying with the MC being on the run, they never learned the running of the court which is fair, but I can't believe that the MC can't hold their own against an assassin or two. That's something that annoys me every play through.

I'm not talking about the court and being the ruler, they're already stupid in first few chapters 😑 There is something dismissive in the way MC is written, very different from the way the author writes all ROs (it's clear she adores them).

Ugh. I don't know how to explain it better, but it's incredibly tiresome + only two choices + forced romance. The only positive thing about this game I see is the setting. World-building. At least some fantasy not based on the European Middle Ages.
