Stories that left you disappointed for a reason

I guess some authors really are less interested in writing in actual story, and more in fawning over their OCs. The story is just a vehicle to showcase them.

Unfortunately, yeah. It's real.

There's just this huge dissonance between his actions and the way his character is perceived, both within the story by other characters and outside the story by the author themselves. It puts a bad taste in my mouth. Luceris wouldn't be so unpleasant to me if his character is exactly the same, BUT his actions are treated with the gravity they warranted. Why are y'all acting like he's just a quirky, mentally ill teenager. Why does he even get to have HEALING as part of his character arc. When did he earn that. Gosh, it annoys me. Literally just imagine him but instead of a white haired anime boy, he's an ugly, aging senile old man, and I wonder if people would still 'uwu' over him as he walks after a child into the woods to verbally taunt them about their dead family (before forcing them to marry him.)

Even the choices where you get to make him uncomfortable about the marriage pissed me off. One of the VERY few chances where MC get to have a backbone at all, and it's just a petty remark that annoys me more than anything else. What do you mean YOU are uncomfortable? Nobody made you marry a child! You did this!

It's a well-known fact that a villain could do the most vile s h i t possible, and as long as they're even mildly attractive, there are going to be people lusting after them.
I guess everyone wants to be that "special" one that "fixed him" and got all the attention and dedication and sexy times as a reward for that.
But as you said, the problem with Luceris is that he's treated inconsistently. The story markets itself as a revenge story, and a revenge story hinges upon having a hateable antagonist. It's one of those genres where it's arguably detrimental to make them too sympathetic, or sympathetic at all. It seems like the author started with the intention of writing Luceris as a monster, but then got carried away by their (and their fans') fantasies, and so his character became progressively more UwU-fied. I'll go as far as to say that this is one of the downsides of interacting with your fanbase too much during development: you might lose sight of the original vision and just... roll with whatever seems to be fun at the moment.
For the sake of the story, it really would've been better to make Luceris old and ugly. The amount of hate would've been something to behold. (or just, y'know, have the MC there as a prisoner w/o the marriage subplot that doesn't even feel necessary for anything beyond ~drama~)

I need to bleach my eyes. I never once imagined both of them to look like that. And its not helping the author decides to make them look like anime characters. In my mind he has the most anger inducing face.

And i have to ask, what is it with people feminizing male characters?
 
I don't mind, honestly. Skimpy clothing, feminine men, whatever. Wear whatever you want. I even like femboys. It just shouldn't be the Child Marriage Man. Like, no, a chibi art of him with a frog headband doing his skincare routine isn't charming. I think him being uwu-ified makes me hate him more than I would if he's played straight. (Not that kind of straight, pardon the pun lol. He can keep his knight boyfriend, though that man should NOT have the gall to act all sad when MC tells him 'hey so uh im not cool about you dating my family's murderer tbh.' Again I ask, are we on crack,)

Sorry, not to harp on that same point too much, but it's just insane to me how that isn't bigger of a deal. Just because he did it to spite MC's sister doesn't make it less gross. Cool motivation, still child marriage.

Damn, CoAaF is so anger inducing to me the more i hear about it the more my migraine intensifies. God, how I wish to delete that part of my brain that decided to read it.
This one and Night market, as well as thei authors - so goddamn annoying. And they think the write gold. Ugh

Why do they look like that??? In my mind's eye the King is an imposing, fully bearded guy (still attractive cause y not, looks has never deter me from being a complete hater before and I won't start now or tomorrow).

Nice art style tho. Shame it was wasted on those bozzos.

I agree with you, when I used to follow this author it always seemed like they would constantly defend Luceris’ actions. The child marriage thing is still sick to me 😂 and like someone else said, it hasn't been all that relevant in the story. Maybe later down the line it will be, but I don't know. Also, not to downplay anyones trauma but compared to what he did to the MC, him losing ONE person he loved is nowhere near as bad. And he gets to move on and have his happily ever after, while the MC will never get to see their loved ones again. This man isn't redeemable in my eyes, I try to look at things from both sides, but his irrational treatment of the MC makes him a completely unsympathetic character to me. It almost feels like his crappy choices are being rewarded.

it feels like it should be more relevant, especially if you romance Helios, but I wouldn't surprise if this never changes, cause the implication of that is you're technically romancing your stepson and going too deep into that would be... Odd!💀 It's been a while since I last played it, not sure if more has been added, the most I remember is Helios being uncomfortable when MC refers to him as his stepson to be petty. (Oh, so NOW y'all are uncomfortable.)

And yeah, I know what you mean about them defending Luceris. Once they said something along the line of how it makes more sense if you know what's going on through his head, then mention how his POVs that they've done on Patreon clear things up and like... NO, i'm NOT giving you money to read how your OC justifies marrying a kid after murdering their family. No thanks.

I bloody forgot about that until you reminded me that it existed. Not only does the author and narrative bend backwards towards Luceris hes not even remotely likable, sympathetic or even redeemable. Man you killed a childs brother and their parents and then married them and you expect me to find you a nuanced character?? You're beefing with prepubscent child mate and he's not even evil in sort of cool or funny way he just seems like a sadist prick who's sole purpose is to torment a innocent child. Luceris fails as antagonist because I just can't take him seriously
 
The thing that makes no sense to me is the king is so hurt and angry about his wife death he does all of this, but moves on so easily? Really? Not really believable, like we’ve seen stories where immortals do not date for thousands of years after losing a loved one. I thought the whole thing was a back and forth and what MC sister did was retaliation, but hey king good everyone from MC family bad. This romance just feels shoehorned in and if I speak I am in big trouble.

The romance doesn't feel shoehorned in it is shoehorned in it absolutely does not fit the tone of the story and I was so baffled on when I first read it I had to put it down for ten minutes restarted the game to the exact point see if there was any ****ing reason on why the homocidal psychopath of king who married a child has any reason on why he gets to have a romance comedy with his hypocritical loser of a knight.
 
The persistent hate for this game is honestly funny to see. The more it goes on, the more someone has to say lmao. At this point the game and its characters are utterly thrashed here. Surely someone must have sent criticism through Tumblr to which the author responded before. I'm curious to see how they deal with these very valid criticisms. Does the author go "you just don't understand the story" or do they go "then just don't read it broo" or maybe something entirely new?

Make it an explicitly toxic romance with Luceris trying to forget (a harmful coping mechanism), and the knight enabling him with his, ugh, love. Make the fact that it's a bad, toxic, destructive relationship very obvious in the narrative. Make the knight become progressively more and more delusional (self-gaslighting), and the king more and more of a mess. Drinking. Drugs. Whatever. He's supposed to suffer from the loss of his wife, right? So show that.
Man, all my ideas for ACoAaF can be summed up as "make the story horror-level dark" lol

Yep and honestly I don't even know why they're making an if, if they are more attached to luceris and lancelots romance then what evers happening in the game so why don't they write or draw a comic about them instead of making this game that only masochists play

See this cuts into what Lovecraft said, I had to stop playing and checked their tumblr and then I realized I’m not the target audience. They mostly seem fine with the king some want to just forgive him and most asks are clearly about romance lol. I felt like I played a totally different game. I seen lots of asks that hates the sister more than the king. I think most used the “want to move on from the past” which is crazy because your whole family being murdered isn’t something you can move on from

It would have honestly much better. The game doesn't decide on what it wants to be is it a psychological horror on what the cycle of harm does to a person is it a slice of life romance or is it a slow burn revenge fic so it fails on all of them
