ik this is a tired topic, but I check tumblr like once a week checked it and saw the night market recommended page so I scroll and see author once again making MC irrelevant. Supposedly the death character fawns over Bella once again Bella is the most beautiful thing in the whole world lol. A anon got upset and asked why does every RO prefer someone else over MC and here come the defenders and Authors calling people insecure and etc. Yk I usually roll my eyes when people call any Women character a girlboss but literally Bella is like seriously would’ve been easier to write a book they probably would’ve ate it up. Make Bella the MC and boom.

More and more authors lately are making their MCs complete bums, while their self insert secondary characters end up being 10x more relevant and better written 😂

Uh, why romance someone who's into someone else lol
Romance in the Night Market is so weird
MC feels like the proverbial fifth wheel
I remember hearing it’s because the story was a novel originally she made with her friends and decided to make an IF hence the couple’s already set. MC probably didn’t even exist and you can tell if you remove the MC nothing really changes.

I looked a bit over the drama but why does Bella needs to have two guys up her ***? Gabriel and now this guy Pen? Milo had his drama with Mal and it seems like MC's isn't anyone first choice (from the men, I don't remember Hazel's route).
Because she’s the greatest thing ever seen! Everyone should bow down to her and shower her with praise and Author even said at the end of the day her and MC relax while MC basically showers her in compliments lmao no joke

idrc about Ros finding other characters attractive tbh. who cares they're pixels lol. but this whole back and forth on tumblr just piles on to all the problems i already got with the night market, mainly that player choice matters very little. especially personality traits, it felt as if the game didn't remember anything i chose before. and this is just another example like "hey you romanced Gabriel to the point he lowkey goes crazy for the MC?... anyway he still thinks theyre the second hottest" like whatever man

and since we're in the topic of the night market it's been a while since i played and I'm not sure if it's just me being dumb as hell:
i played the first game and it had a bunch of coding issues (forgetting MCs pronouns, repeating information my character already got, acting as if scenes didn't happen), but i found the story entertaining enough to try the book 2 demo.
and i was immediately lost. it feels like a lot of info that came out of nowhere, the whole Pen stuff, but mainly Hazel's mother stuff. it felt as if i need to read the Tumblr blog and the patreon exclusives to know what's going on, I'm out of the loop. so either the world building was very hastily done, or i missed a BUNCH of stuff in the first game (and i played all romances)

Lost it when we're supposed to be THE Nightmarket itself and we're still getting beaten up and one upped by side characters. And what the hell is going on with the market it's supposed to be like a shelter for those in need but it's so f8cking corrupt I wish we have the choice to factory reset everything cause the more the story goes the more I think that these mofos don't deserve salvation. But then again none of our choices matters in this IF.
Gabriel and now this guy Pen?
Wtf??? Pen too???? But Pen was marketed as the MC's long time friend/lover, the one RO that doesn't have a side-affair with the other ROs (Hazel doesn't count cause wouldn't you know it she has an NSFW content with — you guess it: BELLA). Except I get it all wrong??? I feel tricked ngl. Guess it's better to avoid any romance in the book. But then again, I'm gonna refer to the first point I make that even without the romance the IF is frustrating to play.

Here's hoping the MC grows into the eldritch being that they are and stop being dragged around because... plot, I guess.

Another thing that I dont get is why um, other characters have more importance than MC? Like MC is basically Gaia, the embodiment of this place, so why are you considering this rando more attractive, important?
Dunno, I think this is a case of author having clear favorites and MC being there just to observe the plot and see how amazing those OCs are.

I don't usually comment on IF here, but I do spend a lot of time looking at this thread and I agree with quite a few of its opinions. But, honestly, today I need to vent and release all my frustration and disgust at so many things I'm seeing in IF lately, that I don't even know where to start.

I'd like to point out that English is not my first language, so please ignore anything. I just really need to get all my disgust out there.

I want to start by saying that lately there seems to be some collective outbreak among IF authors, where they all seem to have come to the consensus that cheating ROs is interesting and cool. I'm an avid reader of romance and fantasy, so I'm always looking for IF that has both, but I have no problem reading IF that only has one. The point is that now, everyone I meet seems to be normalizing an unfaithful RO simply because they do. Because, seriously, honest question, who looks at an RO like this and says "That's the one I want"?
I refuse to think that there are people who like this kind of RO.
An example of my pure dislike for one of this type is the R in that recent IF "You can't stop your love from dying", which I'm not even sure is the right name, but you've probably caught who it is. Whom I have a deep dislike for. Since he cheats on the MC and doesn't mind saying so when they find out, because after all, *** for him isn't love, so he's not cheating. And to make matters worse, from what I've seen, R and the MC are still together.

And R manages to be the combo of the "******* who thinks he's right and MC is a drama queen" + "the infidel". Which to me is as if they'd stuck Milo and Seven in a pot and he'd come out. And I don't think I need to tell you how much I hate both of them and their entire IF, because, frankly, we'd be here for hours just stating the obvious that has already been stated by yourselves, which I agree with wholeheartedly.

Which brings me to the next point, which all these ROs have in common:
Authors with characters who make you want to rinse your mouth out with bleach, yet the authors try at all costs to justify their actions.

I remember seeing someone's comment here, saying that just because someone wrote about an unfaithful character, it didn't mean that the author agreed with the character's attitudes. Which I agree with, after all, it's not because you write an IF that has violence, for example, that you agree with it. BUT IN THIS CASE, it's impossible not to think that these authors like the attitudes they write about. Because the extent to which they justify their characters' actions is unbelievable.
I already hate the fact that characters like that are ROs, but it gets even worse when the author himself knows that the character's attitudes are bad and that their character is horrible, but they want to give me at all costs a justification for them being like that, when no matter what you tell me, they're horrible. Stop wanting to put flowers on their head as if they were an angel.

Not to mention the fact that any complaint you make against their beloved character, they'll go straight to rudeness and ignorance with you. Which we already know the authors of Infamous, Night market and CoAaF (which, despite the fact that the damn king isn't an RO, falls into the same category as sympathizing with characters that are impossible to sympathize with) love to do.
And to add to my disgust, they don't put a single warning on the IF page about this kind of thing. And so I go blindly to IF about it, and come away with the urge to wash my eyes out with bleach and throw my cell phone at the wall.
If you're going to make characters like this, let me know in advance on the IF page, so I can save myself the time of reading garbage like this. And by that I mean, preferably, ON IF ITSELF. I can't stand reading IFs like this anymore, only to go to tumblr to find out that I'm definitely not the target audience, because the authors refuse to put it on IF. A perfect example of this, again, is R. I only found out that he cheated on the MC because I decided to take a look at the author's tumblr, which at least freed me from the eventual anger that I would get if I continued reading this bomb. Which unfortunately didn't happen with Night market, where I only found out about Milo's forced polygamy when I was well into IF, which gives me a headache just remembering it.

That's what I wanted to get off my chest.

Of course, there are other things like WIP authors who never update, but still have Patreon active, and keep saying every month that they haven't abandoned IF, just to give readers hope and keep them giving money. Wayfarer and KOE for me are other separate issues, because they're both good, but Wayfarer has the issue of impossible schedules to be done alone and KOE doing rewrites of things he didn't need because they were already good as they were.

Oh, and there are also those who like to torture and put as much trauma as possible on the MC, which you won't be able to choose how to deal with, or even do anything about. If it's meant to be a revenge IF, I WANT VENGEANCE, not therapy with some NPC that makes me want to give up on revenge if it's not a decision I choose myself.

Anyway, that's it
I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask folks! But what is KOE??? Be real nice if someone expanded on that

The Night Market? Haven’t heard that name in years 🚬

I ended up dropping it *act surprised everyone*

I remember hearing it’s because the story was a novel originally she made with her friends and decided to make an IF hence the couple’s already set. MC probably didn’t even exist and you can tell if you remove the MC nothing really changes.
That actually explains so much. It really did feel like the story was already set without the MC. I kept clicking, hoping my choices would matter, but no no nothing really changes. And the romance? Yeah, the MC is just third wheeling the whole time. Got super annoying fast

It was clear to me that in the novel tbe canon pairings were Milo and Mal and Bella and Gabriel I guarantee Bella was the MC the way she’s treated. I only played the first drop of book 2 before Author went on her rant calling people illiterate for not wanting to forgive Milo lol. And for you guy’s wanting to feel like MC and be strong or not overshadowed 100% of the time, you got things twisted you want MC to be competent??? Stop being insecure and wanting everything to be power fantasy slop

At this point, she should’ve just written a book. Throwing in an MC just for the sake of calling it an IF, but giving them zero relevance? What’s the point? Night Market’s romance was so frustrating I ended up more pissed off than anything else.

also this. if the author dislikes power fantasies why did they make the MC a God. like just make them a merchant or a normal sorcerer, or the next Keeper or ANYTHING ELSE. a lot of the plot couldve stayed the same ! when you make your character so canonically Important you're gonna have to give a lot of thought to power scaling. you can't have any rando off the street be stronger than, well, the street the rando is in
