Oh, yeah. I love We Wretched Creatures but it always feel too sad for MC. Like damn, they aren't catching a break. And sometimes it feels like there is hardly anyone in MC's corner. Like no, I don't think Sally counts because it comes with expectations too.
YES. And the romance option is making me annoyed more than anything. I was wondering why everyone is that keen on hating MC.
I feel much better taking antagonist romance because playing MC who is in friendly-romance is just unbearable to watch.

Alright, to get my thoughts into order, because apparently I have lots of thoughts. I love We Wretched Creatures, the vibe, the feel of a campy 90s show, but I have thoughts of the characters (can’t say much of the plot).

Now, this is mainly colored by my playthroughs. Also, be aware that it may contain spoilers, but I’ll try to keep it vague.

So, first victim! Salvatore or Sally as he is affectionately named is perhaps my favorite, followed closely by Lorcan. Now, one might be excused in thinking that “if the world didn’t get me, I know Sally does,” but does he? Really? Make no mistake, I trust that Sally loves MC. I mean, Jude didn’t make it a secret on Tumblr. Sally loves MC more than he does Orla. Or anyone else, I guess.

And as much as I love him (gosh, I would try his route if they weren’t related!!) his love comes with shackles. Like there are expectations on MC, you must act a certain way lest you get a less than favorable side of his love. It’s suffocating, I guess. Sally acts like he can’t bear MC being mad at him (one scene in particular, but I don’t remember it well), yet treats MC as a fragile porcelain bird that he refuses to let out of his hands.

But I do not really like um, the parallels between him and Father. Like he isn’t above insulting and berating MC even if later he apologizes. And he is rather controlling with them (the playdate, the halloween party scene) even if his intentions are good.

It is quite clear that he favors MC out of the whole family, even over Percival, who clearly needs help too, but this attention is giving MC negative side effects too. Like the unsavory rumors that seems to follow MC everywhere when with Sally. I hope that Jude isn’t going to make Sally a mirror of Father, because while I can forgive quite a bit about Salvatore, he better not try to continue the family legacy (or sacrifice MC).

Percy – er I have no opinions of him. He is there and being a jerk to MC, but not enough to truly make me hate him. It is quite clear he needs/needed attention from Sally too but alas, the spot of the favorite is taken already.

Lorcan!! He is Orla’s dog, but I think it improved in the later chapters, at least for me. Using the friendly flirt options gave me quite a different vibe of his route, so I believe on that route he is more bark than bite. It was satisfying to see the way he progresses from hating MC to reluctant feelings/friendship. And he didn’t mention Orla anymore (or at least that often). Buuuut of course, all of that got thrown into the trash at the Halloween party and its aftermath.

Still, I do like it how he is “becoming” MC’s dog in a way. Like he
killed
for them, even if after he acted disgusted and I’m pretty sure the romance will be rocky for a bit with him avoiding MC like the plague while he deals with those feelings about everything.

His reason for hating MC were entirely justified even if it wasn’t MC choice (boo, the plot wrestled that out of my hands), but imo, he was more bark than bite – tho I didn’t try the antagonistic route. But I like that even pursuing his route isn’t only challenging to him, but also MC. Like they can have a crashout about it – are they trying to imitate Orla? Replace her by “stealing” her boyfriend?

Nia… not going to lie, I do like their banter and I do believe that she liked/cared about MC, but still… I do not believe her for a second that she intends to stick around this time either. But yeah, the only reason she is sticking around is because of the crime at the Halloween Party – for now, I guess. After all, the whole group is complicit and there aren’t ties that bind you together stronger than
murder
, right?

Imre – that boy ain’t right. That’s all I’m saying about him. Like yes, Imre is charming and at first glance, it does seem like he is in MC’s corner compared to Lorcan. But man, it becomes pretty clear that he sees MC as nothing more than a toy that has to amuse him, even if he might be fond of them.

And that’s all. I have my gripes with the overall story treatment of MC – it does feel like the world’s hobby is kicking MC down, even when they’re already fallen. And there are times when the group is a group only in name. Like I won’t say they care about MC – more like what MC can provide for them. Sigh, truly Sally is the only one in MC’s corner.

Sooo TLDR: I don’t trust anyone and the world hates MC.

Read Jude's two other IFs (O Your Heavenly Star and Excellent Cadaver), and at this point it's just the author's signature to have miserable MCs whose life sucks and are constantly being sh8t on by the other characters. Yes, even unimportant NPCs get to dog on the MC, how nice 🥲

It's getting tiring but that's my fault for reading the three IFs in one seating... 😃 help

Sigh, truly Sally is the only one in MC’s corner.
I find him creepy af lol. If the author didn't say he isn't a RO, I would've legit thought he has some weird feelings for MC. Controlling, anger outbursts, red flags, red flags everywhere, let me get away pleeeaseee
Then again, what isn't a red flag in that game
The only one I found kinda sympathetic was Lorcan
Everything feels a bit too twisted for my tastes tbh, kind of the opposite of the ones where everything is too idealized and friendly - but I can appreciate the author going there & writing majorly flawed characters & featuring some heavy themes
It's kind of like reading "One hundred years of solitude" or something similar for me in this regard, I think
It makes me uncomfortable, but this by itself isn't bad

Every single npc in we wretched creature is so infuriating. I love tragedy, but holy hell i cannot stand every interaction there.
I feel like every single problem that it has, just there to spice the story a bit and never gonna be brought up again. And the fact that they were so nonchalant about anything.
Totally true. The plot and MC seemed intriguing, but all the NPCs were so annoying that I just gave up reading.

I want to try another story (the one with Hollywood) but if I don't like one author's wip I'm skeptical about all others.
