Hello my dear members,

I hope you guys are doing well. As you may know that during the past few years, CoM has continuously grown to be a thriving community for not just mods but also a place where people can talk and have fun. Now If new members don't recognise me then I am Daniel, the forum administrator and usually I am not active here except I do check things from time to time on backend.

Now to come back to the today's discussion, If you guys haven't noticed already then there are no more ads on the website. Previously we were using a good ad network which had banners across the site with mainstream content (nothing 18+, offensive or shady). Unfortunately a few days earlier the ad network disabled our account due to a reason which doesn't make an absurd reason which was false. I did send an appeal but they rejected it.

After this I tried some other ad networks but they are nowhere near the previous provider. The rates are not sustainable and many are applying 18+ ads along with shady pop scripts which I personally do not want you guys to experience.

Unfortunately at the same time if we are unable able to find any solution to the money problem as we do need to pay the server and domain bills then I am afraid we will have to close the website. Also due to our current server nearing the maximum storage capacity we will need to upgrade it.

At the moment, I have funds to run the server for another 3 months but that's how much I can pay including some out of my own pocket.
I was thinking that a dedicated server with good cpu, ram and enough storage for the next 3 years would be good rather than our current VPS which is not scalable either. Currently we will need to make $60/per month if we were to go with the new dedicated server.

I have consulted with the staff as well about this situation and honestly we don't have any ideas other than user donations which due to privacy reasons will need to be done in crypto currency. Additionally I am open to other ideas which users think we can go ahead with to save this forum.

Please feel free to reply on this thread or start a private conversation with me here or on telegram at @Daniel_161.

Edit (07-20-2025): Thank you guys for your amazing response. I have received many messages and DMs about ideas as well as support for donations. I have thought about this and I think we will be going through the donations. Many people said crypto would be a problem so we are working on an alternative similar to Patreon/Ko-Fi which would be secure for us. Additionally, based on the feedback received so far, I think we will be able to raise the amount per month so we won't be using any sort of advertisements. I will add the options later after I create a transparency report. So stay tuned for more updates.

Edit (07-22-2025): After some research and thanks to your feedback, We have started accepting donations. You can go to this link to donate: https://choiceofmods.com/donate/
We are using Boosty to accept donations via Cards. Boosty is very similar to platforms like Patreon, Ko-Fi, etc so it should be convenient and we also accept Crypto so you can send me a message to know more. Also Boosty is taking a commission of 13-15% of the overall amount received, So this month's target is $70 actually and not 60.

Also I have created a separate thread to discuss about the features to the donators and also suggestions about the forum which we can do. I will share more relevant info and my ideas there so you can visit this thread: https://choiceofmods.com/threads/forum-improvements-and-suggestions.3584/

Edit (07-23-2025): We have raised donations of amount 72.63$ which are enough for the forum to last one month, post upgradation of the servers.

Edit (07-27-2025): As of 27th July, We have secured 124$ which is enough for two months. Soon I'll be drafting a server upgradation plan and will share more info.

Edit (08-05-2025): We have secured 143.77 as of 5th of August. I am working on a server upgrade plan and will try to share within the next 3-4 days.

How about a Patreon? With some tiers, the highest tier gets priority on which game gets modded first, etc. The money we all save without having to spend on every CoG and HG is a lot. Maybe if some of us can spare even a fraction of that for the Patreon, it would help run the servers. Also, as a side comment, the mod menus are god tier; there's no place like this with quality this high. It would be a shame to lose this site.

If the worst comes to the worst could mods and leaks be shared on discord? The threads on here could also be moved onto discord.

I'd be more than happy to donate but I know absolutely nothing about crypto. Could you set up a ko-fi page for donations, like Dan has?

Considering the number of people who visit this site, I think it wouldn't be hard to raise $60/per month. The hard part here, I think, is not the amount of money needed, but to ensure privacy of money transfer. But even if for some reason worst will happen, then I hope we will at least archive all good stuff for download.

I'm willing to donate, as are many others, but the reality is that even if we raise enough to keep the site afloat for a few more months, the underlying issue remains. It would only be delaying the inevitable.

For the moment i recommend setting up cryptocurrency wallets with a visible monthly goal (e.g. $60/month). Display a donation tracker on the homepage so users know exactly what’s needed and what’s been raised.

And until donations stabilize, consider moving to a cheaper hosting plan or archive inactive threads and files. This reduces costs without killing the core of the community. And to be clear we should held a vote, perhaps most people are fine with **** ads if that means keeping the site afloat. And if they don't want to see them create a cheap premium membership for the site with no ads.

i think 18+ ads are a small price to pay for such an invaluable resource like this site, but i also think donations could be sustainable as well, and to be honest i don't really see any harm in having a mix of both donations and ads support the site staying so that theres some redundancy built in for stability and maybe even growth/upgrade/improvement services

Put up some crypto donations links even if you do decide on ads. I would also recommend selling banner ads to users, along with some sort of special donor status for accounts. Though I think using both ads and donations is probably the best option there are websites that run off purely crypto donations.

I have no problem with any kind of ads if it means this site can continue to thrive. I'll try my best to help as much as I can with the important stuff (don't know a thing about crypto though).
