What made you guys get into IF's?

I got into IFs during the pandemic when ofc being a teen with no other options to distract urself was expected.
I remember doing an extensive search through playstore in hopes to find smt good enough, till I stumbled across my first IF game which was "choice of the dragon" lol. I read almost every IF back then from both hosted games nd choice games. good times honestly.

I think my first IF was back in 2022 or sum, it was Superstition on Itch.io, I was in the same boat as you and then I learned this new term called "Interactive Fiction" and from then on I spent days just going through all of them at the same time lol

Fuuuuuuck... I think my first wip that I read was a few years ago? Like, three? Four? But anyhow, it was an abandoned wip, which I didn't know at the time, since I didn't know how all of that worked. I though that all of those were like full games, but little did I know 😭
I can't even remember a name. I just remember that it was something along the lines of, you are a retired detective or something, with some supernatural elements I think? Though before that, I was aware of VtM ones, but they haven't pulled me into it all. It was the detective one that was a stepping stone for me

It's familiar to me for sum reason but I can't remember the name either 😭.

Shame so many projects got abandoned. There were a lot with potential

Yeah... And the best part, this was an old one. I remember that I saw that it was published for some time, in 2020 something, and that was just left like that for like a year.
Oh, I think it's Swallow the Dark! Ands I just checked, and two months ago, it says that they are back from a hiatus!? Game was left abandoned in 2023, but let me take a look what the announcement says.

Okay, it said that there was a major update in April? There might have been, idk... Says the last time it was updated was 54 days ago, which means 41 if we exclude this month.
Do some quick maths, and isn't that before april? I'll be sure to check it out again, since it might have returned! 😁 🙌

Mine was during covid era while stumbled upon Wayhaven 1.

The book was peak actually before flopped. Then gradually addicted to new titles that were genuinely good back then

I had already played Lone Wolf Saga (that classic we used to play with books, not the Sniper one, which is also amazing, yes, I’m old) and saw that they’d released an Android version. Wanting more, I discovered the Delight Games series, which I also loved. Finally, I stumbled upon Choice of the Dragon and got curious, it was love at first sight. Since then, I haven’t stopped playing IFs. It’s not necessarily text-based, but the Sorcery! series is also really interesting, I just blurted that out of the blue, sorry about that.

Me I am older, being a kid from the 80's they had these books called mad libs, sort of like the predecessor's to choose your won adventures where you literally chose words for the books to move on the story then there was these little books called dungeon's and dragons lol. Add that all to being an avid reader of just about every genre it just made sense to em when I first read when the book Choice of Robot's first came out.

I had the Arcana installed back then and in "you might like" suggestions in Google Play store some game from Hosted Games appeared. I think it was The Shadow Society 🤔 or some other but I'm pretty sure it was the first one I read to the end.

Loneliness bro lol. Starting with duskwood and then as time went by, because I was trying to find similar games, I finally found Itch io then Cog. too bad i found out cog after dashingdon shuted down
