Stories that left you disappointed for a reason

Does reality TV IF count as slice of life? I thought slice of life was more everyday ****, not reality TV. But I'm bad with genres so
Listen, it's certainly more slice-of-life than idk arthurian IFs, superhero IFs and supernatural IFs 😅 But yeah, slice-of-life probably was not the most accurate characteristic. I should've called it more grounded or realistic, I guess.

If this isn’t AI then I feel bad, but the writing really does feel bland. That’s what made me skeptical at first, it’s a complete 180 from her old writing. It had a clear voice and soul now it’s something that, like it was said, gives off an uncanny valley feeling.

I mean, yes to kind of uncanny and definitely not as good as she probably thinks it is, but she did say she's spent two years figuring out how to write the way she wants to write which is why she took such a long break so of course it would be different. Like if it was only six months, sure, but two years seems pretty reasonable to have a turn around. And the new ones, the characters to actually seem mostly distinct compared to the original wherw you could just transplant any of them in and it would sound the same.

It's overwritten, she still doesn't know how to use em dashes properly, it's not great, but idk about it being ai. It's possible, but like someone said on the last page, we really can't be certain.

We'll see how this edit she's apparently doing comes out, and I'll probably report back if I'm the only one playing because I gotta know if quality changes or what

Oh no, the sentence in bold should have a colon and not a dash...😶
I thought it should be a semi-colon but I never worked out actual colons if I'm being honest, and I've been told these types of rules are technically flexible (em-dashes vs colons vs semi-colons) .

Honestly did not realize it’s been two years since the old one. True, that is a lot of time to change your style. There’s so much fluff, it’s weighted down and hard to get to the characters for me, I’ll take your word for it because I agree with there being no distinction. Happens a lot in IF when you have too many characters unfortunately. I just hope when she edits, she cuts the fat.

The last release was summer 2024 so yeah, it's coming up on two years.

If she wants it to be that long, fine, but it needs to be earned. Do something with the words or cut them out. Too much time doing nothing, you know? I'm happy to read long chapters, especially with this many characters, but make it worth it.

I had a feeling it was just because she was forgetting and or making grammatical mistakes. I have trouble focusing and often repeat sentences or leave out information. I don't mean to. That's why I really liked the one comment that actually brought up neurodivergent people in this conversation. And from what I've seen of AI, mostly from videos where someone left a prompt in their book, em dashes were never used as frequently as they were in summer of love. The first page alone had more 3 or more.

Honestly, at this point if I was writing a if or anything else I'd be have tempted to leave my spelling **** ups in hopes that maybe that would stop me from getting accused of using ai. Like I get it I want ai to **** off too but people are accusing people of using ai now for having comments on youtube longer than two sentences.

Me too lol. I've seen people accused of using AI just because their thoughts are concise or their art is really beautiful and most of these accusations come from people who aren't writers or artists.

I just checked and she's actually autistic and with also being disabled, half these issues might just be her brain and body pulling her back, and maybe over-compensating in places. The ai example I saw here and the examples I've just looked up, sure they use em-dashes, but in the very formal, technially correct sense whereas hers are informal, sometimes incorrect and as you said, a lot more frequent.

yes! typos are embarrassing but as least it's going to be real and human

I tried reading Azrael and I have some issues.

-There is a lot of missing words in sentences ( Although IDK if English is the authors first language or not)
-Grammar and punctuation issues
-Inconsistent pronouns/gender for characters
-Now maybe its just a me thing but i feel like the writing is kinda juvenile at times with some pages having an excessive amount of swearing

I have a few more but these are the most apparent to me.

I have just finished binge-reading The Second sight and suddenly I have a burning question and a bone to pick: am I super forgetful or are there almost no IFs where the MC's central good parental figure is a woman\mother and not a man? I can only remember Bastard of Camelot having a mother as front and center, but I wouldn't call her positive.

(Also baaaaayby, I have just discovered that one of choiceofmods users has decided to use my username+pic for their steam, ko-fi, f95, Discord and itch.io profiles which is extra funny since I only ever used this combo for choiceofmods (as a pirate does). Shoutout to you, weirdo, I know who you are; learn to hide your traces better. But also quick reaction lol)

I think in Mirror mine you have a good/decent mother but it hasn't updated since 2023
And maybe the woman from Mother Where art thou? Although if I remember correctly in the description of the story is that she leaves you when you turn 18 (for some, reason well find if it doesn't end up abandoned)

Yeah the writer of Mirror Mine hasn't even interacted on tumblr since early 2024 so I think that one is probably pretty soundly dead. Shame I actually thought the concept and what was there was pretty good, but what can you do.

The single mom route in Press Play, the poor background from Hungry Dogs, TWH, Cantata, The Ballad of the Young Gods (or is she?), I don't remember if the mother from apartment 502 is a good role model or not. I'd list more but I just realized a lot of these women either die or are already dead...
I think Costa Sul has a mother who is good but I haven't played much yet.

While randomly checking something I saw that tumblr logged the mirrormine account as being at the very least logged into 4 days ago on my following page. Not saying it means anything just making an observation.
