Haven't played wayfarer for so long. Can someone tell me what the deal with Aeran being a ro and then not being a ro. This is what remember seeing on tumblr about wayfarer. You can spoil me even the whole game if you want, last time i played it was a party or something and after Aeran was mad at MC?
I think it has to do with him having his own narrative line and being a RO only if certain conditions are met. So he's like a secret/niche RO. I can spoil you the latest chapter where it becomes clear what's up (tho I recommend you play it yourself, it's a fun one) of you want.
Ugh, Wayfarer is like one of my fav IFs but the wait between the chapters is soooo dang long...
Have I misunderstood a post from a month or two ago from the Keyframes tumblr account or do the routes end badly by default? The post seemed to imply it would be selfish of the MC to stay in the relationship instead of breaking up. I don't have the original content for that ask being sent in and answered so all I have to go off of is that post and my assumptions. If true then I'm no longer interested in the game.
I found it, wow... that f*cking sucks. And they planing 7 seasons of the game after this summer one... So you gonna stew romance for years for it to become a bad end?
Also guy's have "set sexuality's at the start of the game and there's no promises anything changes or anything stays''. What in the vague sh*t is even that
Yeah. It honestly just killed my whole mood.

Oof, I’m probably not the best person to ask, when was the last update again ? And honestly, when is Aeran not mad at the MC ?
I remember the Tumblr post you’re talking about. I still don’t actually know if Aeran is an RO, a side RO, or not an RO at all (I don’t check Tumblr anymore), but at this point we’ve already spent most of the available content with him anyway, so might as well.
From what I remember, Aeran gets angry because the MC keeps prying into where he’s been all these years and what really happened during the Order’s fall. Then,
you find out that he and, by extension, Varyn were involved in it.
Basically, the Order split into two factions: Varyn’s side, which wanted to modernize and form a more diplomatic “play nice” relationship with the Guild of Mages, and Cenric’s side (the dwarf we rode with at the start of the game), which was way more traditionalist and absolutely did not want to associate with the Wayfarers’ “mortal enemies.”
The Order didn’t actually fall because of outside forces destroying it. It collapsed because of infighting, betrayal, and people killing each other from within. Though with how suspiciously pleased Quirinus (the blond mage we met after the attack before joining the Order) seems about everything, outside manipulation can’t really be ruled out either.
So yeah, Aeran feels guilty because the MC eventually learns he was involved in all of it. We still don’t know exactly what happened to the masters, if they’re even alive, or what role Sero played in the whole thing.
Though this is just how I remember it, someone else could probably explain it way better than me.
tbh at this point if I see no acc activity for half a year, I assume the IF was abandoned.
Y'all remember when Vendetta IF was a thing?
...also realised that The Exile last updated almost a year ago, rip
The Exile dying was very disappointing, but sadly I knew it was cooked when the author announced a rewrite. That's basically the death knell for 90% of WIPs from my observations. I never actually had much fate The Exile was gonna get finished in the first place because the game was way too overamibitious with the variation and everything else and because the author was quite young, but it was a pretty good IF and it was fun while it lasted, RIP.

I tried to read it but didn't seem like there was much research done for accuracy. I stopped around the first page when the character said they wouldn't drink tea because it's hot outside...cold tea exists? And alcohol warms up your body. I knew I'd get taken out of the story because of the inaccuracies.

This just makes it even worse than I thought. Just say which routes are which when it comes to character's sexualities. They may not know yet but the creators and players should. Though it sounds like the devs change their sexualities whenever they want to based off of that disclaimer. Not interested and I doubt many would be after learning about these facts about the game which you ONLY discover when looking through their tumblr page. How deceptive.
Yeah I had Keyframes on my list of games to check out and I've swiftly removed it. Not my thing at all. The fact that you can only learn this on their tumblr is shady as hell.

and there were people in the comments glazing how painfull and realistic it is and how they like it even more. wtf this is outrageous. Also, are they going to kickstart every ****ing new season? I know that from summer gonna be paid, are they gonna charge for every season then? What a waste, i really liked it. Thought it just going to be slowburn. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined

I'm sorry. It's better to know than to have paid for it and or wait for it for years without knowing. I don't mind realism but not disclosing any of this on the Itchio page and hiding details from your audience so it can be sad later is just irresponsible and rude (Similar to Animal Lover's one route that ends in suicide and when people asked for a TW they said "no" because that would spoil that route.)
Yeah I remember finding Animal Lover to be just okay until I played his route. There were no trigger warnings anywhere in a somewhat jovial game, just for me to end off my full run of the game with his route and find out that not only does the game have only 1 ending per character but that a character commits suicide at the end of his route. The worst part? He never commits suicide if you don't play his route. I immediately jumped to the itchio comments and saw other people complaining too. I don't know if they deleted the comments or if they were drowned out by positive reviews.
The Exile still kind of disappoints me, I enjoyed the IF and didn't really ever see the point in the move to twine and rewrite considering the OG CS version was around half finished at the time being around chapter 6 I think if I remember right. But yeah the last game Update was last February and their last tumblr reblog was last June.
I think the author moved to twine due to money\monetisation issues. Tbh, understandable, but I think it might've killed the creative flow. But I am very bummed because Exile was one of my favs. Pathetic traumatised meow meow: the game, but the MC actually has good reasons for that.
I do know of a dev (I won't mention who cause they have like 10 views on their video talking about their WIP) who had a decently popular demo on dashingdon. Anyways her work hasn't been updated since 2024 but I saw a few months ago that she's currently remaking the game in twine!! So it does happen <3

Not sure who that is, but if she ends up needing help with coding in there, you can point her to me, and I'll help out with the coding problems. I'm already coding multiple things at once, so what's one more to the pile

Almost all of my favorite IFs take about half a year for an update. Not everyone works at a fast pace or has a lot of time to write. I do unfollow accounts if they say on tumblr updated 2 years ago or more but I don't take their games off any lists on Itchio because there is always a chance they'll come back. I do think people's expectations for updates are a bit high. I get waiting half a year for an update is a bit much for most people so I'm not referring to that, but I've seen people complain about waiting a month or two for an update. That's just ridiculous, especially if the author doesn't have a patreon or kofi.

While I completely agree with you on this, I'd just like to add something to consider.
This is how I viewed it, and how I think it should be done, and is also how I've done it and am currently still doing it, but the problem is not taking half a year or so for an update. The problem is the authors going AWOL. Radio silent.
I get everything, but giving an update on Tumblr or whatever takes like 2 minutes. You can't sit here and tell me that you don't have 2 minutes of your time to spare to tell your audience "hey, I'm not dead, it's just whatever whatever". Giving frequent updates on the process is the least one can do as a writer of ifs and wips, simply because it takes little to no time, but keeps your fans informed, so they'd know what to expect.
Though this is just my opinion. I understand that some people lock in and whatnot, but that still isn't a good enough of an explanation to me. Just don't keep people who want to read your story in the dark, and you'll be good. Transparency and all that jazz
