I feel like flavour text has it's place, not everything needs to affect the entire game, but like for example, in the games I play, it should matter if I'm snogging someone behind my main partner's back, but it shouldn't matter how I greet a single character the first time I meet them, other than to raise/lower relationship and personality stats, which should matter over time but not from one act alone. both types of choices are important.

Oh I get that. Not even I was insane enough to make every single choice matter, simply because sometimes, it truly doesn't matter (stuff like some random reactions of mc towards God knows what). But I'm talking about stuff like personality, how others see you after some interactions, something in regards to the looks of the mc, personality stat choices that matter and not be there just for the sake of them... There are obviously some more important things, but something that I was more aiming at is something that is "general", when in reality it shouldn't be.
Otherwise, it just feels like mc is a ****ing figment of someone's imagination, with no tangible place in the story
As a rule, I like to think 'would this matter in real life' and if the answer is yet, I want it to matter in the game, even if it's not right away. I'm okay with delayed consequences as sometimes life is slow to bite you in the arse but generally, if it matters in life, it has to matter. I also think this is why I'm disappointed with some of the games that's being rewritten because the choices matter but the writing is worse or not sitting quite right. Summer of Love is the latest one for me, although their edit after getting criticism did actually help so I'm hoping we'll be okay and so long as our choices continue to matter, I can live with it's current quality, mostly because my interest in IF is specific and I can't really afford to be picky if I'm being honest
Actually, given that many IF authors are neurodivergent (disclaimer: that's not me judging them), I'd assume many of them read a lot of stuff on whatever the hyperfixation is. And many of them are, for a lack of a better word, nerds (hey, I am one myself), so that comes with being predispositioned towards reading. It's just that being an avid reader doesn't make you a good writer or vice versa. Imo, to be a good writer you need a very rich inner or outer life, a lot of life-related, sensual, cognitive, or emotional experiences you can process and transform into smth unique or interesting. And that's where many aspiring writers (and tiktok ones) fall short. Then you also need to add dedication on top of that (which is hard to come by, especially if you are creating for free for a crowd of spectators not all of which are nice).

Kids these days’ is usually what people say when they ran out of actual arguments. Plenty of people still read books, they just don’t treat reading like a personality trait. And Funny how people always blame ‘kids these days’ instead of admitting attention spans dropped because every generation built faster entertainment. Also kinda wild to complain about people not reading while writing essays on TikTok users.

Serpent is the one who's more invested in this (mainly because no one should want me to actually get invested that much, for undisclosed reasons), because unlike the people in the pictures (aside from the two covered; you know who you are and I appreciate you) he's a real friend of mine.

The only choices that matter in that VN are all customiztion options. The protagonist has a set personality and you only have one LI unless you buy a DLC and even then you kinda have to suffer through a forced attraction to Cove to get there even on a strictly platonic route.
The only reason Our Life got popular was because of COVID.
I don't understand the big deal, since there's no shame in that. Many things became popular during covid because people were bored, and once it passed, people stopped entertaining it. I've seen literal places that were never a tourist attraction become one simply because people couldn't leave their countries, and games were no different.
Not sure why one would go to such lengths at defending something as unserious as that
