Stories that left you disappointed for a reason

It was literally listed in the game description:
Explore ancient ruins and the cobblestoned streets of the medieval city of Tarragona. Step into a grand cathedral, a sprawling market, a multicolored harbor, the dark gates of the city, or an aqueduct that no one dares to come close to.

Just as: Hunt down the thief that stole your forbidden maps!
We achieved that goal at the end of book 1, didn't we?
Except for the maps, but that's obvious. The story would have ended if MC had gotten the maps and they had simply returned home.

Maybe some people would prefer a faster pace, but personally I liked even all the silly little scenes (which could be cut out) just because they are well written. At times I felt like I was reading a novel, but it wasn't a flaw in this case.

I didn’t say any names but apparently everyone knew what I was referring to. I don’t hate it, just is overrated to me tbh, it’s a good book just the fans ignore the faults so I won’t ever say anything negative about it. You all got it, it’s the greatest masterpiece ever! No wrong even if there’s some parts not liked it doesn’t matter it was written masterfully. If I wanted to read a novel I wouldn’t play a IF but guess it’s forgiven in some authors cases

Maybe because she actually loves MC no less than ROs! She openly says it's her favourite character. I also noticed it in Fallen Hero, how the author enjoys writing Sidestep and their interactions with the world.

Maybe this is the secret (at least one of the secrets) to creating a good IF? You must be interested in the main character and their story you want to tellW. When you love your ROs and write a story with them in mind and then stick MC on. Various things can come out of it. Negative ones.

😅 Once I actually saw a lot of complaints about slow action in a thread on the CoG forum. So it's not like everyone is ignoring it. Not to mention the comments pointing out that some ROs are straight or lesbian... 🤦

Don’t worry I’m just a hater, I probably dislike 90% of fan favorite IFs, but I am a consistent hater I even hate on and pick apart my favorite IFs.

To be fair, the only 3 Arthurian legend books I know are: BoC, Guinevere which is dead and The King's Hound which is utter trash. Also Arthurian legend isn't as well known as people think it really is. The most well known part of the legend is pretty much about Guinevere and the subsequent affair and not really about the shitshow it caused. Other parts aren't that popular. BoC being about Mordred and not another 'but it was forbidden love' retelling of Guinevere having an affair with a married man (people love excluding that part to make it more fairy-tale like and palatable) and ruining her marriage to a guy who genuinely loved her. Also you could tell Llama actually knows her stuff about the legend while making her own story which is great.

Favorites will be hard to define you see, I’m not the type to replay a game even if I like it unless I love it this is for all media. I’ll keep it to HG/COG sphere no twine. My favorite completed games would be a Demon recollect which I have replayed the most and even then it’s incoherent, ZE: Safe haven have a few faults with it, and Fallen Hero which even I had left that Reddit because I find the jokes so unfunny, my faults with it is very big thing so I’ll keep it to myself. I would say breach, but I have a big problem with the trio. Now for WIPs I would say Poma you can find my faults with it in that thread hint I HATE Ruo, college tennis don’t really have faults with it tbh I don’t know much about tennis just casual watch, Demon Fireforged my fault with it is why do all these gods or entity type WIPs have you taking care of children or kids???, Kingdoms and Rewrites think you know my faults, WLGYL idk I just need to play a relaxing slice of life still the writing at times I do not like. To be fair I don’t replay games much so I can’t really get favorites, I’ll only play if I’m in a specific mood or it’s my favorite thing ever. Like right now the only thing I’d replay is mass effect trilogy just for Tali and Jack and even then I’d probably stop after the citadel party in 3 because the ending annoys me so much, or Origins for my beloved Morrigan. So yeah I can nitpick anything and everything no matter how big or small.
 
Coming in to ***** about yet another IF I liked that, as far as I can see, can be safely proclaimed dead, aka The Abyssal (I love my revenge stories IFs).
I think at this point I won't be even trying to read anything that has less than three chapters released 🙄

Oh yeah another one that randomly added a kid that MC had to take care of. Was one of my favorite wanted to make twins suffer and sea god. He dropped a rewrite and bounced again lol

Both writers give the vibe that they would call me a slur for liking to read about age gap relationships and incest. The types who never really grew morality wise outside of kid's cartoons and I mean the preschool stuff and not stuff like Adventure Time but know and understand they're too old for it so they take that view-point into adult spaces and then throw a tantrum that it doesn't fit their narrow and black and white view point of the world while spoon feeding them what's good and bad.
I mean, a lot of IF writers behave like this but TKH and FOA actually has the writer's mindset so baked into their writing it's almost amusing. You can tell these people never really engaged with the source material outside of thinking that they could 'fix' it and remove all the nasty and bad stuff that they don't like replacing it with their modern day black and white and narrow-minded view on how things are supposed to work/be.

The legend has change countless times, Mordred wasn't even supposed to be the villain in the old old version, nor was there a Lancelot (a character that is perhaps, maybe, possibly, originally created by Chretien in the 12th century). Also, Arthur really emmulates his father in taking a maiden who doesn't want him back, of course she'll betray him (serves him right).

I am totally not an agent of Le Fay trying to slander the Pendragon bloodline to oblivion noooooooooo

Consider yourself lucky. The Abyssal isn't bad just another IF abandoned with an active Patreon (is it still active to this day or has the author finally close it down? If not then he's one hell of a b4stard). Fields of Asphodel is a mess that doesn't deserve a sequel but here we are with Blood of the Living! I think I'm gonna implode
