Stories that left you disappointed for a reason

Why is the IF space especially on tumblr so hateful? And why anecdotally do the most hateful and illiterate people happen to be fans of the most sloppily and poorly written IFs? Almost every time I see an author and their fans being the most rude their writing isn't even all that good. It's also sad that a community based off of reading text games cannot properly read and assume they can read emotions and tone through text even though that isn't possible. So someone online, anon or not, can simply ask if blank is in the game (no, this is not about the poly incident) or will be and a overly defensive, chronically logged into tumblr, dashboard-addicted fan of theirs will jump in to defend the author when nothing needed to be defended. If you or your fans are rude your writing should be phenomenal otherwise that's just embarrassing. I'm honestly shocked that authors who called out the community on the cog forums and said they will never have a forum there have not also called out the overall tumblr IF community for, depending on the individual IF/Author, being just as terrible.

It does kind of make sense though when you figure out that a lot of IF fans are fans of a particular game series that was once voted as a top 5 worst fandom on tumblr...
Because a giant portion of Tumblr is a bunch of retards. Not everyone mind you, since I believe that there also is a good deal of normal people there, but as I said, a good bunch. It is very simple when one knows how they function.
They all function solely based on emotion, and nothing else. They will fill the void that they get from real life by reading some bullshit, and then they'll become simps for that particular writer. After that, the said author becomes like a cult figure for them, since they are all just parasocial like that. So whatever the said writer says or does, they'll all jump to their defense, but even that has some dumb limits.
So yeah, they don't use their minds at all, which is basically the reason for what you described.
For example, I've seen Suevi writer lose their absolute ****ing mind over some ask that was just that. A regular ask. But I guess I'm wrong, and somehow the ask told them to go **** themselves in some very secretive way, hence the reaction to it. And then, the friends of the writer and their readers all just to defend them, like, huh?
Or hell, CC will get an ask along the lines of, when will we get an update, which she'll answer by the famous "when I fell like it, leave me alone. lol" and her dogs will be like yes queen, tell em. Like common.
In future, I recommend posting screenshots, so we can all have a laugh on their expense 😂

Because where would they be without the tumblr IF community?
(but also I'm so out of the loop about any IF drama that idk what the poly incident is or what else happened recently)

Might have been the jealousy ask (scenario ask about a possesive/jealous MC turned lecture on healthy relationships), but this particular author used to do this quite a bit.
I can't recall the exact ask, so it could have been. But yeah, as you said, they have a ****ing track record of doing that **** atp :ROFLMAO:

To summarize the poly incident for you in hundred words or less😂
Friendly fire: ON
Lgbtq+ fighting against their own, because of the aforementioned parasocial behavior.
Poly person comparing that poly relationship is in the same category as what the predators do to kids.
Maybe not to that degree, but they did say that it was a mental illness, which is always a good way for the Tumblr crowd to go completely insane.
So yeah, that's the gist of it:ROFLMAO:

Oh, I forgot to add a nice little fun fact, how the poly person is all for mpreg bs and all that, but can't fathom poly relationships:ROFLMAO: What a time to be alive

True, though just because a community is needed doesn't mean it can't be critiqued.

The poly drama was someone who went on anon and sent the same ask that basically said "is there poly in your game? i hope not" to maybe hundreds of IF accounts even some which only had a handful of followers. When they were called a troll they then started sending in more asks saying that they weren't and got very mad no one was taking them seriously. They were so mad they went to reddit and spoke about it and also regularly complained on tumblr and their account on tumblr was found. This turned into the IF community thinking that everyone has it out for poly romances and led to some authors thinking about adding poly just to spite the anon which is kinda messed up and insensitive.

Also, related but not really. The author who discovered who the anon is is funnily enough related to my previous statement on rude authors. They're not that nice. I'd say maybe write your work instead of scouring the internet for trolls but their writing isn't all that good.

Ah, I know this poly drama. To be honest, the person just seems to be someone who lashed out and was disrespectful. (I would say they were maybe not an English speaker and were just awkward with their wording but I mean they are just a hater.)

I don’t think everyone in the IF community started thinking people had it out for poly…and the people who did are that part of the IF community who lashes out at everything. Which, I never really got either.

It’s like this subset of people believe everyone has it out for them, their author’s story, or the author themself sometimes. It gets really tiring reading their comments sometimes.

But beyond that, I really wished authors would just not interact with “trolls” if they think they’re trolls.

If they’re trolls, why are you interacting with them? Just ignore them. I really feel like trolls don’t need to be made as big of a deal as some people currently make them out to be.

There’s no need to make something that someone hates (whether that person hates it for wrong reasons or not). Because you weren’t going to add that in the first place!

Why are you wasting energy on something just to spite someone who has little significance in the end!

And sometimes I feel like authors respond to haters too much. People will ask and say they dislike or dropped or XYZ the story because of this or that. Which they don’t need to send that to the author really, but when the author responds and says something like “well I don’t care! I have other readers!”

I really just want to say, you don’t need to respond to them! It’s at least bothering you in some way for you to even respond.

As an aside, I also know the author who outted the poly-hater anon. Last I read it, we were barely into the story and hadn’t even met all the ROs yet

I looked at their tumblr to then see hundreds of answers to asks about the ROs, and decided this was probably a game that would not be finished any time soon…
