True, though just because a community is needed doesn't mean it can't be critiqued.
The poly drama was someone who went on anon and sent the same ask that basically said "is there poly in your game? i hope not" to maybe hundreds of IF accounts even some which only had a handful of followers. When they were called a troll they then started sending in more asks saying that they weren't and got very mad no one was taking them seriously. They were so mad they went to reddit and spoke about it and also regularly complained on tumblr and their account on tumblr was found. This turned into the IF community thinking that everyone has it out for poly romances and led to some authors thinking about adding poly just to spite the anon which is kinda messed up and insensitive.
Also, related but not really. The author who discovered who the anon is is funnily enough related to my previous statement on rude authors. They're not that nice. I'd say maybe write your work instead of scouring the internet for trolls but their writing isn't all that good.
Ah, I know this poly drama. To be honest, the person just seems to be someone who lashed out and was disrespectful. (I would say they were maybe not an English speaker and were just awkward with their wording but I mean they are just a hater.)
I don’t think everyone in the IF community started thinking people had it out for poly…and the people who did are that part of the IF community who lashes out at everything. Which, I never really got either.
It’s like this subset of people believe everyone has it out for them, their author’s story, or the author themself sometimes. It gets really tiring reading their comments sometimes.
But beyond that, I really wished authors would just not interact with “trolls” if they think they’re trolls.
If they’re trolls, why are you interacting with them? Just ignore them. I really feel like trolls don’t need to be made as big of a deal as some people currently make them out to be.
There’s no need to make something that someone hates (whether that person hates it for wrong reasons or not). Because you weren’t going to add that in the first place!
Why are you wasting energy on something just to spite someone who has little significance in the end!
And sometimes I feel like authors respond to haters too much. People will ask and say they dislike or dropped or XYZ the story because of this or that. Which they don’t need to send that to the author really, but when the author responds and says something like “well I don’t care! I have other readers!”
I really just want to say, you don’t need to respond to them! It’s at least bothering you in some way for you to even respond.

As an aside, I also know the author who outted the poly-hater anon. Last I read it, we were barely into the story and hadn’t even met all the ROs yet
I looked at their tumblr to then see hundreds of answers to asks about the ROs, and decided this was probably a game that would not be finished any time soon…
